ok guys, im currently with yorkshire bank, but recently been having a bit of trouble with them and are going to change.

i have looked on the internet and every bank has something negative about them,

im wanting an account where i can get paid from work and also make transfers and online banking etc.

so which banks have you been with and what are the pros and cons about them.

if youve got any suggestions then please suggest.

Thanks :)

I am with Lloydstsb...and ive not had any issues with them....they've been helpful and friendly whenever i've phoned up or gone into my local branch...would definately recommend them!

To be honest i think alot of it depends on your local branch and what kind of people are working there!

First Direct - 100% fine for me. Been with them for over 10 years and beat my wife's varous banks in that time.

First Direct.

The only problems Ive ever had, have been resolved about issue. UK based call centres and generally how a bank should be run. (Free over drafts if you need them too!)
#6
First Direct or HSBC ( same company ), never any problems.

Avoid Santander .
#7
I'm with Halifax, HSBC and Barclays. I'm very happy with all of them.
#8
TSB for almost 20 years, haven't had any major problems!

Definitely. I don't know of anyone who has had a good experience with them. For all the adverts you'd think they would be better.

Barclays - no (Bob Diamond, nuff said)
Santander - no (horrible administration and too many incompetent agency staff)
Lloyds - no (Ex-head of santander or one of them are going to be managing Lloyds later this year)
#19
I have never had a problem with Santander, been with them 10 years or so, we have 7 or 8 accounts with them
#20
With Lloyds TSB for around 7 years. Not had any problems.
#21
Lloyds TSB don't have any phone customer service advisors or branch customer service advisors. Instead they hire sales advisors for both roles who will constantly harass you to take up new items whenever you have a simple enquiry on the phone. Heard a few stories of people being pushed into taking up some kind of fraud protection service whenever they lost their card.

The future of Lloyds is not looking bright, especially if you dislike Santander ;)

What's wrong with Bob Diamond?

I am with HSBC Premier. No fees for going overdrawn, bounced cheques, preferential rates on mortgages / loans / savings and a personal concierge service. All for free!!

I worked for Lloyds TSB once upon a time on a night shift, all our wages had to be paid into a Lloyds TSB account. A colleague signs into his online banking around 2am and finds £800 missing, calls the customer service team who inform him that he had withdrawn £400 just before midnight and £400 just after. Colleague tells the advisor that he has been at work since 11pm and so it wasn't him who withdrew the money, they didn't believe him. I speak to the advisor and tell her that my colleague had been here and she didn't believe I was an employee, so I go through the whole answering questions so she can check I have a staff account. Eventually, she refuses to even stop the card over the phone and hangs up on us. Colleague goes into the branch who stopped the card but wouldn't issue a refund or even extend an overdraft for a short time. Colleague was made homeless as he couldn't pay rent and was only given the money back when the CCTV from the site was given over as proof that he had not been at the cashpoint.

As a personal customer, I just transferred all my money into a Halifax account, but as soon as the customer services get merged, I'm out!

HSBC - been with them for years, internet banking very easy to use and transfer money - just need to make one call to them to get it set up - and always been answered by someone in a UK callcentre, very helpful in branch, wide range of machines in branch to reduce queuing times :) can't fault them - always gone out of their way when i've required help :)

Avoid the big banks. They dont give a toss about individual customers.

Best I have used are Smile (consistently in top 3 UK online bank surveys), Co-op (good ethical policy) and Nationwide (no shareholders!).

I use all 3. The worst I have used are A&L, Halifax & HSBC

I am with the coop bank who are pretty good. Once went overdrawn by a tenner and they rang me with in 20 minutes to let me know :)

They are the most ethical bank ....

THE HALIFAX are scum bags.

smile is the co-op, also have the same ethical policy and fees are cheaper than the co-op as they are online.

the thing i find really useful is that if i have to pay money in i can do it through any post office branch - very handy to me as they are open to 5:30 and are not just in town centres where i have to pay for parking!
