Which gaming console to go for, mainly for an 8 year old. Wii or the PS3 with the new Move accessories.

Pros and cons of each? Am not clued up about these things at all!

Thanks :)

For an 8 year old I'd have to lean in favour of the Wii. Do you know if any of his friends have a console and what they have? Whatever is popular amongst his friends is the console to get.

Having played a Move demo I'm convinced it's better than the Wii already.

if you can afford the ps3 and move tahn get that cause the only advantage the wii has is its price. Move is superior to wiis motion detecting. Blu-ray on PS3. Better graphics, better online.

+1

They can then swap games with one another and take their own controllers over to their friends' to play 2-4 player multiplayer.

They are two different consoles.

The Wii is like an old console, great games but played when you feel like it and only when the big games are released.

The PS3 is a casual console, playable every single day with Online and so many titles your Son will never ever get bored with it.

If you can buy both at some point, but if you can only get one right now, buy a PS3 imo.

I'll just add it also depends what his interests are in gaming, I loved Nintendo when I was younger so I got Nintendo consoles etc i.e. Mario, Goldeneye, Diddy Kong Racing etc on the N64.

Actually lemme rephrase it, the Wii is a multiple console i.e. it's best played with another person Mario Kart, SSBB, the PS3 is a console that one person can play with the online features pretty easily.

Thanks for the replys

I suppose the Wii wins on the price front... and he's got a DS so is quite into all the nintendo characters

but I'm trying to convince myself to get a PS3 as it'll double up as a bluray player (and I'd probably play it more!)

so in summary I'm still undecided!

PS3 the definite candidate if it's an all rounder you're after.

Price wise you can pick up Wiis with a couple of remote sets for around £100. The PS3 with couple of Move sets and controllers coming in at around £300...

PS3 with move, youll get some use out of the console too if you not a gaming fan, Bluray for a start, 3D movies coming out but ofc you need 3d telly for that. Your son will grow up and in a few years if nto now will be into shooting games like the heavy end CODMW2 MAG BFBC2 etc, and will find the wii babyish when all his mates are into the more serious games, and with a wii he'll be stuck waving his arms around, and will want a ps3 as well, so future proof yoruself in a ps3, since no doubt he'll find wii boring soon enough, also the the mvoe out now, it gives you a very very accurate and precision version of the wii, bundled with the fact not every game is about flying fairies and whatnot

Not everyone's a millionaire wotwot.

Because everyone knows to have £300 spare or £400 spare you need to be a millionaire, right?

lol

well I'm not a millionaire but there's just no need for 2 consoles, I wouldn't be able to justify it!
