Hi All,

My Norton anti-virus trial expires shortly but don't fancy the £60 / £110 renewal fee. Can anyone recommend any others please?

Thanks for your help

Just cut and pasted from my reply to similar question yesterday so:

Avast is great, takes a little bit of getting used to with the "car stereo" type interface, but is very good, dont know about anyone else but with Vista i use:

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=mncol

Spywareblaster (Runs silently in the background, but have to manual update once a week)
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SUPERAntiSpyware free edition
http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSp...-10523889.html

You have to update the last one every day, but at least you know its protecting you daily and it take a few seconds,

Would also ensure that you uninstall any remnants you have of your last antispyware program as if you have it still installed it can corrupt the others, so download ccleaner,

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=mncol

Install the program and firstly run the cleaner, then click the "tools" option and use the "uninstall" option to remove any unwanted programs, then once done, click the "registry" option and run the cleaner,

Damn that was a long reply, but hope it helps,

eset smart security.
beats all of these hands down.

yes you pay for it, but in my opinion its a small price to pay only once a year to protect the investment that is your computer.

after all, how much will you spend on a night out?
a meal or trip to the cinema?
a night clubbing or at a gig?

forgo one of these, pay for a decent security on your computer and stop worrying about it.

we all want something for free, but its always better to use 1 software to do everything than 4-5 bits all made by different people.
it may be a short term solution but for peace of mind, splash the cash and protect your computer properly
