if you're using it for gaming, i'd go for the second one.

Main choice is whether you want an AMD or Intel processor. I'd always go for Intel but that's purely personal choice - had too many bad experiences with AMD. Others may hold a different view.

The AMD Phenom processors are absolute rubbish. To put it more rationally, they have a very poor price / performance ratio. Stick with the Core2Duo it offers much better performance.
#5
Always Intel.
#6
have intel processor, get ati gpx card.
I always had amd, but i don't think my phenom is any match for the e8000 series

Remember it is a 2.6GHz quad versus a 3.16GHz dual-core, the dual-core is going to be a good 30% faster at single-threaded tasks but for multithreaded tasks the Phenom will be faster. If it is mostly for gaming mind, that still makes the Intel a better bet (as few games utilise multiple cores well).

2nd one by far!
#9
yep I agree, but I can't recall much multithreaded programs/games for the average user, which is why I would recommend dual over quad.
The quads are also more hotter and power hungry, which, if you overclock, might be another factor.

I still like my phenom as I like the phrase "you can add more ghz, but not more cores"
