Hi i have to go buy some computers for work and i am trying to decide which ones

They will be used for work, mainly microsoft, emails etc, they do not really need to run much software wise. we need them in at least 2 colours

I have 2 in mind

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/659295/sony-vaio-eb1e0e-15-5-inch-notebook?page=2

and

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspiron-1546?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1

Are there any opinions on this, i have used dells before and found them nice and they are a bit cheaper, but have heard great things about the vaio's

All help appreciated

do you want a laptop that is likely to be reliable (sony) or unreliable (dell)

mumbojumbo
Both of those are home computers and overspec'ed for wordprocessing and e-mail. Depends on how your firm wants to spend its money, I suppose.

These are to ship between home and office, they are sort of work/personal laptops, they will not hold a lot but need to be used several hours per day and to be able to be quick and be good for multitasking

I agree with this, would never get another dell after past experiences with them

I disagree about Dell and find them to be absolutely fine.

However, for the sort of work you're talking about, consider some Lenovo products (IBM). Quite cheap and decent enough build quality. (If you can get the Dells cheaper of course, then go for them).

Are you intending to pay for onsite warranty/repairs etc?

Thank you for the help everyone, i think we may go for the dell's as they may be more better value all round for the usage they will get, at that price its not an issue if they have to replaced every few year.

In answer to your question DragonChris, we have tech repair centre in the same building and my colleages have delt with them in the past and found them reasonable, so i suspect they may use them.

Fair enough :) I was going to say I was very impressed with Dells business service when I had to call them (after you got through the usual "are you a retard who can't diagnose a problem" quiz) and they sent someone out next day.

I dont like the keyboard of the Dells and like the ones on Vaios so that would sway me, if I have to use the computer for hours a day, every day I want to at least enjoy using it.

Vaio.

Because it's Sony. Only trumped by Apple.

Official.
