I recently bought an X1.

Didn't buy the Storm because it has a lower screen res, and isn't Microsft. Didn't run all the software I wanted it to run eihter.

G1, I didn't buy because it's overpriced, and much though I love Google, they don't seem capable of bringing things out of beta. Some things, they get bored and give up with. Lack of good software + minor wariness of Google put me off it. Also, the screen res is a bit low, and I think the camera's a bit shoddy too.

HTC Touch Pro I didn't buy because it's on Orange, and Orange are an exceptionally poor company to deal with if anything goes wrong. And it might, their staff are remarkably stupid. I think they hire the ones that get fired from Vodafone.

N96, didn't buy because it's a not-very-convincing update of 2007's N95, except with various feaures taken away, other features diminished in quality, a nicer case, but a feeble battery. Screen res of only 320*240 too, which is no good for internet or anything more complex than a text message.

iPhone, more expensive than it was worth. I did consider it, but it's not much good for internet, and with its lack of keypad, a dog for texting and stuff.

Omnia, I skipped on for various reasons. I did contemplate it for a while, but then decided against it because the spec was a bit poorer than the X1's, and it doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Requires some stupid dongle if you want to plug your own headphones in. Iirc, it had a retarded deformation of USB, too. I can't be having company or model-specific connectors in my gear.

Look into the X1, I say. All phones are flawed, it's just the least flawed for my needs.

Good reason, though the phone can be bought on other networks. Dunno why Orange are claiming its exclusive - it isnt! Its not available direct from O2 yet, but if you have a look, you can find it.

The HTC Touch Pro can be bought on many other networks, Its the XDA Serra on o2 for example.

Its a shame they dont keep the names HTC come out with as it does get rather confusing....

When my contract ends I'm going for the HTC Touch Pro....

One other bit of advice. once you'v narrowed down your search do some reviews on youtube...

Is it the same as the HTC touch HD?

The X1 seems a good bet too.

From what I've heard, the Touch is exclusive to Orange, but only until January or maybe Feb. Reason for the delay, I guess, is that Orange and HTC have always had a pretty healthy relationship in the UK, with Orange being the only ones that used to sell their old SPV handsets back in ye olde days of 2003. There's probably a deal between the two these days, now that HTC have just about made it as an established brand who can stand up by themselves.

You reckon? I was put off by its low resolution of only 320*400 (the X1 I went for instead is 480*800), and lack of optical mouse. The X1 has Opera too, which is great.

I wouldnt. The Touch HD is far superior. Much bigger screen and higher resolution for starters.
