Which phone should I upgrade to on my contract? Sony W995 for £97 or Nokia N97 for £172

T-mobile are finally willing to budge and letting me keep my excellent contrat and offer me a phone at a discount, but there's only 2 phones that I'm interested in at the moment (outside of Iphone but that's not available on T-mobile) and I've been offered the Sony W995 with speakers for £97 or the N97 for £172 but which is the best value for money?

I don't particularly wanna pay for a phone....not when I'm already paying out £40 a month for an 18 month contract but there's not many decent phones on the market.

Also, my contract doesn't include free internet but I may add it on later.

Why, what's being said about the N97?

What's so good about the W995, as I know it's got very small internal memory with a lot worse screen quality but it has a great sound and does everything that I basically need in good time.

Kind of but I also want a really nice phone too...it kinda looks a bit basic and similar to previous Sony phones for the last few years.

Ok so get the N97 then. Lets face it if you don't like it you could shift it for over £300 no sweat

I could probably sell the W995 for around that price as well.

What I really want to know is it worth the difference in price, as I don't want to spend that much but if it's really worth it, then I will.
I heard the W995 is supposed to be a good phone but don't know much about it and was hoping people can help me out with comparisons.

What's happened to the days when a £40 contract used to get you any phone on the market for free?

Still can on some £40 contracts.

PS I would be surprised if the SE held any kind of price TBH.

What makes you say that?

My contract gives me 1200 peak mins and unlimited offpeak mins....that's why I don't want to give it up but it seems it's going to cost me with the phone.

SE are not exactly on the up an Market Share is dropping like I don't know what.

SE are no longer a desirable phone brand.

Just my opinion of course others will differ.

I went firmly off of SE when they killed the P series with the P990i. What an abomination of a previously sweet smartphone!
I luv my N97

I think I remember that...wasn't that the one with the big screens with the flimsy flipdown feature?

Don't make me spend the extra money on the N97...I'm so tempted but don't wanna shell out that kinda money.

Unless I can justify it to myself....hint hint that others need to do it fore me. :whistling:

Yeah, the P910i had the flip down feature as did the P800 and P900. You could take off the flip if you didn't fancy it and use it just like the N97, touchscreen stylie.
The W995 selling point is that it will be the last SE to combine a decent camera and the walkman features. I believe that they are going to veer away from one another now with specialist Cybershot models and Walkman models.

They're now offering me the W995 for £48 and the N97 for £147.

I'm thinking of just getting the cheaper option, I've been told that it also comes with 8gb memory card and external speakers and it's very good for internet, giving double what the Iphone is actually capable of.

The W995 will do you right until the N97 comes down in price. I have no doubt it will as the iPhone brigade are putting daggers into it as it is so much better than their Apple offering, an anti-N97 vendetta is in progress. Dunno why, but there ya go. Just jealousy I guess :)

I heard the N97 has a lot of software issues at the moment but it will most likely have a software update in the very near future but my brother loves the phone at the moment. :)

Dunno much about the W995 but £48 doesn't sound bad....I'll probably call back again tomorrow to see if I can get it any cheaper. :whistling:

i got a w995 and returned it after one day, some of the handsets are plagued with software issues from not finding any mobile network to losing the bluetooth funcionality and then there is not being able to stream any videos over the wifi. if the replacement is not 100% perfect i will be looking for me money back and buy a nokia or LG
