The inlaws has just got themselves a computer. (A guv hand-me-down!)

For Xmas - the missus has decided to get them a printer.

Just had a quick gander at ebuyer.co.uk - but to be honest, there's little choice, though obviously the market is huge!

The cheapo Epson on that site appears not to have cheap cartridge options available. I'm not quite sure how much printing they are gonna do - but definately a printer that has cheap replacement cartridges is a must! I'm leaning towards Epson - but anything will do. No Lexmark pap!

So - its just a basic colour inkjet thats required (no all in one pap) that cheap replacement cartridges are available. I'm so out of touch with new printers... so over to you experts!

High class rep for helpful replies. ;-)

Cheers Gari. I thought Canon did have cheaper replacements (though not as cheap as Epson) but wasnt sure.

All mine are Epson (R300) and replacements are as cheap as chips - even though its a 6 cartridge printer!

guv i know you said you didnt want an all in one, but these days the all in ones are as cheap as normal printer, should they ever need photocopying done etc, etc, mines an eposn all n one and take 4 inks, usually pay about £4 for the set

Yeh cheers Sassie. To be honest, Ive never really looked. The last time I had, they were a fair bit more than the basic machine. The one shown above on ebay proves the point.

Need to read up on the cartridge spec. ie is it a single or mutli- cartridge system. Hate when they run out 'cos you've used one colour heavily and throw "good" ink away!

dont know what model mine is got it about 2 years ago from ebuyer, may even be longer than that, was about £50 at time if i recall with 2 sets of genuine inks, but now by non genuine, mine takes 4 single ones, so replace each one as it goes, usually all go together though, unless genuine, then they seem to go at diferent times

I think the canon we have is an IP3500 which presumably has been superseded by the IP3600 but the cartridges for this are about £7....

Cheers Dan.

Know what the cost of replacements are? Are cheap ones available?

Got a feeling at this price the cartridges will be all in one jobbies and work out more expensive in the long run.

the rx 585 uses about 6 inks and are about £7 each or half that if you get compatibles, and cheaper if you buy all at once.

Ta.

Is this printer currently available though? The RX300 I have work out at less than a quid each! I'd be happy for something of that calibre - though that's the rub - whether or not cheap cartridges are available for the current equivalents. That's mainly why I've posted - I simply don't know the current market!

OK - so the ebay printer that was suggested above was a DX4450.... this one at ebuyer is the replacement for that model (so it says!)

Would it right to assume that Epson have probably nobled it so it cant take cheap replacement cartidges?

Yeh I realise that. The one mentioned on ebuyer is a newer model.

Probably makes no difference!

Do you have the DX4450?
