Ok people now I'm annoyed! I'm not sure what to get - my budget is around £400 and I can get the LG 37LF7700 for £400, it includes freesat HD which is quite good but unsure how it compares with others.

Plus richer sounds has the LE37B530 which is a samsung and looks pretty neat, in addition they also have a Sony 40" which is also £400 (but apparently this is old tech).

Anything over £400 is a no go, I want a 37" or 40" (nothing bigger/smaller) and no Toshiba's, they are I've been told re-branded matsui's.

Personally I'm leaning towards the LG, but it comes only with a years guarantee, so then I think the samsung is a better brand as samsung make their own panels.

(I'm pretty techy so feel free to throw any terms at me - just don't have hours and hours to trawl the net about this)

wtf! you obviously havent seen many then :-D

and what has hooking your netbook up to a tv got to do with ruling out a plasma lol

I'm on the verge of buying the LG too, can I ask what the vouchers you mention are?

Well I went into Comet or PC world and saw LCD/LED and Plasma all next to each other, I remember the LED being really bright and very sharp and rich colours.

Plasma having the richest colours, but the image looking a grainy (best word I can think atm), may more 'dotty' especially on skintones/peoples faces.

And the LCD seemed decent, therefore since LED is too expensive, I'm left with LCD, I've not seen many plasmas, but I'm not too keen on them.

you wont get a proper reflection of quality from pc world etc.

I have an £800 LCD and a £500 Plasma. The LCD is now in the bedroom. Never come across anyone who prefers LCD over plasma in this price bracket.

and the person that told you Toshibas are just re-branded matsuis is a fool!
#11
Well the samsung is out, as the pic quality is not so good - just read the comments on the deal.

Would it be better to wait until may? When there's some bigger price knock offs?

Are Matsui still around? They were the own brand of Dixons or somewhere similar and are likely to have been rebranded goods of other manufacturers, not the other way round.

They're one of the Bush/Awai generics, all 3 are rebrands of each other, well they used to be anyway.

I had a 28" Matsui widescreen tv back when widescreen TVs were expensive and not the norm. These days, with all manufacturers offering budget alternatives there isn't really a need for these generic brands.

Well which one people?

If it's Argos you're looking at, it's Bank Holiday this weekend so they may have something in the sale they'll inevitably be doing.

The LG looks the choice one for me. I'd always avoid Samsung personally though they make some nice looking stuff.
#16
Yeah but the sony one from M&S comes with a 5 year guarantee!
#17
The LG for me purely because you can get free HD via the freesat. With the world cup on the horizon that'll be England lifting the cup in glorious HD.

Sony will probably suffer from clouding.
#19
well I've got sky+hd anyway and I'd rather buy a seperate freesat box with more features.

In terms of picture quality which is better? the Sony from M&S or the LG?

Not a problem if you have 5 year guarantee!
#20
I was leaning in the LG direction like everyone here - but the 5 year guarantee from M&S just makes the Sony a better deal - plus i get £20 quidco and another £4 cashback from my credit card costing a grand total of £376.

You won't get a definitive answer, what one person likes another dislikes (look at any thread like this on HUKD). You can only ask for opinions and then base your purchase on them.

SO you came on here asking for everyone's advice, they leaned in the direction of the LG but you opt for the Sony because it has a five year warranty which you knew about before asking. So your mind was already made up.

I was thinking exactly the same.

Well not quite - I wanted to know peoples opinions first. But maybe subconsciously!

But Thank you everyone for your help.

Just be warned on Sony LCDs (especially this model), you will probably have poor screen uniformity, backlight bleed around the edges, clouding and forget black levels - hello grey levels!

A five year warranty may mean you can send it back for some of those issues but you'll just get back a set with the same issues over and over until you decide a refund is in order. Or it may be fine from the off...

I have the LG and its a fantastic TV

I've still got a 14inch Matsui portable in my bedroom and we've got a 28inch CRT in one of the other rooms also god knows how many years they have been knocking around but both still run strong!

We've got a KDL32D and a KDL32S
At the time the 32D was £1000 at the Sony store (£620 online).
To the person saying that the blacks look grey, you are wrong, sometimes the 32S is slightly grey but the 32D is superb.
I sense a lot of Sony hate in this thread, from the same people who slate PS3 stuff.
Sony for TV's.....Bose for Hi-Fi!!!

sony all day long!

you will not regret it
