Looking at buying a friend a bottle of whiskey for christmas, but I don't know a decent one from meths! (don't want to ask him as it's to be a surprise).

Can anyone recommend a good one for between £20-30?

Thanks.

Whisky drinkers love this stuff, there are some gift packs around this time of year with a selection of 3 small bottles of different types, makes a a nice gift

One of the finest tasting bottles of whisky I have ever had teh pleasure of drinking was a 15yr old single malt called Longmorn.

I also discovered thats it's my father-in-law's favourite whisky, and he lives in Sctodland and is a bit of a connisseur.

I would suggest the normal 12yr Glenfiddich, its generally considered the yardstick of malts, while not the best, its great medium. Without knowing if they like a smokey or delicate whisky (or light/rich) its hard to pick one. Do you not know anyone who drinks with him or knows what he likes?

I've drank some horrid Whiskys in my time, and the 10yr Glenmorangie is among the worst, I can not stand the stuff yet it seems to be getting some love in this topic.

You've got a point there, i;ve just had a look at some of the links & it seems a bit of a minefield to a non-whisky drinker.

Don't really want to spend £20 odd quid on something he doesn't like, so next plan is to try to subtley find out his favourite tipple.......undercover elephant!

Do you at least know what type of Whiskey he likes? Some people dont like scotch or burboun etc, so narrowing it down to a type would help a lot

Bells. Navy Rum would be better though!

Starting to think that a 2 ltr bottle of white lightning or lambrini would be the easier option now! :santa:
