who has been to turkey recently? advice please?

mrs barky and myself just bagged an insanely cheap bargain to turkey leaving glasgow on 28th june-really happy with it-never been before-coupla questions.

one brochure I picked up in the travel agent mentions the need to purchase a visa at the entry airport for ten quid each, which must be paid in sterling? is that correct? travel agent never mentioned it,altho it does state on their paperwork that visas are OUR responsibility-not bothered about the cost, just need confirmation of the info please.

also -eating out-average price per head for dinner?drinks?

I think you only need the visa if you are going to travel out of the area you are staying in while you are there.

Not true. You WILL be made to purchase a VISA at entry to the country for £10. This will then be stamped when you leave.

EDIT: Also alcohol outside the duty free is extremely expensive. I would suggest that you buy a few bottles from the airport. Foodwise, we went to dominos and paid around £8 per pizza. Food is slightly cheaper there on average.

Pay it as you go into the country and have your passports checked and stamped. They like sterling x

Make sure you put a £10 note in each passport even for kids. Also dont give a £20 note for 2 ppl it wont work they will take the £20 and you'll have to pay another £10 for your partner.

Turkey is amazing but very hot at the same time. It hit 48c when i went last july. What part you going?

If you go to the Olu Deniz area, you HAVE to go paragliding. It's one of the best things i've ever done. Take a look at this.

EDIT: Never mind, you'll be miles away!

+ this, no coins they will only take notes. and the visa is for 3 months so if you go back within that time no need to get another one.

We went to marmaris awesome city. There's so many activites you can do for so little money. You can swim with dolphins for about £60 but book well in advance .

Some activities
Lazy day boat cruise
Jeep Safari
Turkish bath - AWESOME
Go Karting
Water Park
loads more as well but forgotten

Even though many people have already stated, to reconfirm, £10 notes only and no change! Our travel agent was nice enough to warn us first luckily!

We went the same sort of time as you are going, and it was so hot out their, and my fiancee is use to the heat in Florida. If the weather is that hot, which it should be, just do what we did go out make the most of the morning, then come back for a snooze and some food at the height of the day then make the most of the afternoons, and even in the evenings we were wearing shorts, or on the odd night when there was a breeze and going out late we would put on linen trousers.

When we were there, and thus some things I can personally recommend:
Turkish bath + massage - inexpensive so do look around for them, the massage was more but was worth it!
Pamukkale - hot springs and travertines, very nice to view, and made a lovely day accompanied with going in the big hot spring at the top.
Ephesus - it is very large and the heat there is increased as much of it is below the ground level due to excavation, furthered by the whitish sandstone reflects the light (and heat) around. Thus if you are sensitive to heat then I suggest take plenty of water and an umbrella. But it is an amazing site, to which they believe to have only found 20% or so as well so far.
Boat Cruise - we spent a whole day on the boat, visiting places of interest on the way and getting off, also jumping off the boat into the clear water as well. And then ice cream boats come round as well!

We had an awesome, yet expensive, time, but it was so worth it.
