I have had 3 and Vodafone 3G and find them both patchy although Voda is better. I'm regularly disappointed how slow pages load onto my Blackberry 9000 even with the 3G icon. I do use it all over the Uk. I can see it is the network and not the Blackberry because speed varies depending where i am. I also am suprised how often I can be in a well populated area and there isno, or a very low 3G signal. This is with the BB or if I drop the sim into my Sony Ericsson C902. I do know that in general Voda has much better coverage than 3, but if i get a really good signal with 3 it seems faster although that would always be with a dongle rather than the phones I mention.

Thanks for that, so so far i am leaning towards voda altho three are cheaper as they dont seem to charge extra for internet :) i will wait for other peoples opinions.

The speed you will get, mostly will depend on the quality of signal in your area. Voda do have places where their possible connection speed is 7.2Mb - however they are few and far between. O2 is the slowest, with a max of 1.8Mb

Was with Orange before and their speeds were usually very sound. Good speeds on HSDPA through out most of London, which is 3.5g I think. I have since moved to o2 because of the iPhone 3Gs and although the safari browser on the iPhone renders webpages much faster than Opera which I was using on a HTC phone on Orange I can tell the overall speed of the connection to the web is much slower on O2 than on Orange. I don't think O2 have upgraded their network to HSDPA yet, it's a shame cause they seem to be getting all the most web capable phones at the moment with the iPhone 3Gs out now and the Palm Pre and the HTC Leo imminent.

Any questions? Shoot away mate be glad to be of more help.

what 3G mobile you got?

3 give the best value
Voda for speed and cover area
but T-mobile & orange is one company now eitherwise T-mobile is the best
mobile stick is better than sims as they are coming out 4G.

3.5G provide 7.8Mb (orange) apart from coverage area need to watch out the rest is really good

Whats three's coverage like please in the North west ?

Also is three's speed on par with orange's ?

Okay thanks mate, o2 have just excluded themselves from this then :p

Do you have any idea of what Mb i would receive from Voda and Orange in the North west (near Blackburn, so its not a big of a city area like Manchester)

I think youv just counted Orange out too, and sold three a new contract ! :)

If i was to get a Nokia 5800 on three would it has three branding on the casing ?

I think i might actually go with Voda, but with a Magic is a fair usage policy of 500mb enough ? :s and if i got over are they likely to charge me

Think you need a hsdpa phone to take advantage of the full speed available?
#16
dunno what the prob with o2 is - i have xda ignito (touch diamond) and have no problems

Dunno mate, probably. Hadn't seen it mentioned so thought I'd throw it in there. UMTS which is normal 3G is only about 500kb/s I think so it can be quite a big difference.

The other thing is how efficiently the phone takes the data and converts it onto screen. Two phones can have very differenet internet browsing speeds even though they have the same spec.

I think the basic points are the phone does make a difference, reception is very much down to specific places rather than 'what's it like in manchester' and Voda, orange and O2 probably have the best coverage. generally it's all just about acceptable but being an regualr user in many places I wish we were another generation down the line.

I've got a N97 on o2 and it's lightening fast.
