Who would have thought...

Who would have thought getting into the police was so hard. Went to a assessment centre presentation last night for Info on what I will do in the actual assessment centre...OMG Im dreading it more than my University exams and it looks like it will be harder!
Since leaving school my maths knowledge has sharply declined (which is bad because I got a B in my GCSE maths) and Ive gotta do 25 questions in 12min.
Its going to be a long 2 weeks me thinks.

Anyone got any handy hints or tips or has anyone been through this with the police any info would be appreciated.

there are books available online for these types of tests, have a look at amazon etc, good luck, the questions arent really hard and there are many other parts of the selection process other than the written examination.

my mum tryed getting into the police last year she passed with flying colours on the first part but when it came to the fitness she failed as she is 52 and they wanted her to run for 7 miles and she couldnt do it. sadly you have to be under 55 to go in to the police and once failed you have to wait for 12 months before you can try again and the trainings 3years so she cannot do it again.

getting into the police is very hard my brother failed 3 times at the final stage.
He got in first time for the chemical police which should be harder as hes armed 24/7 .

The exams are quite hard to progress as all police sit same ones but nonetheless he got his sergeants within 18 months and is now trying for inspector and hes been there about 3yrs maybe less

remember my mum saying about the maths etc and they also had her go in a room and deal with someone ranting and raving at her to see how she coped and she passed all that i remember her waiting for the results to come through the post she was so chuffed she had got past that stage but in the second stage with the fitness she failed.

I've heard the role play section is a huge factor in the assessment - lucky I think my days at Tesco will help me cope with any unhappy customers

yeah the roleplay is very important, u have to say the right things at the right time, my brother in law had a book about the police roleplay ill ask him what its called when i get home, i know it made him more confident as he knew to drop certain words in certain parts of the roleplay.

i enjoyed doing the roleplaying part of it , they like you to go in full of confidence ( almost cocky !)
try not to use slang or get embarassed.. lol
the fitness test has been made ALOT easier than it was , the panel interview isnt so bad.. just have loads of scenarios ready and hope they fit the questions.. try to find some key words that you know they will like and use them.
research the role and the force area you live in ..

hope all goes well :)

Yeah I'm going to go back over my life and find scenarios that fit in with the 7 competencies...pity my life is a huge collage of grey interspersed with trips to the toilet
