Who would of thought it - PS3 in saved by 2D/Side-on platformer shock!!!

After a couple of weeks in my game collection - having little gaming nibbles on it in-between bouts of GOW2 on my 360 - LittleBIGPlanet has finally revealed itself to me.

I was completely blindsided by it - spending a couple of hours in the tutorial levels prior to the game starting up properly. All I can say is WOW!

If you don't own it GET IT.

Finally a justifiable reason to own a PS3 - worth buying the console just to play the game such is it's subtle brilliance. A truly amazing and fresh take on video gaming.

Last time I was this blown away by a 2D platform title - it was Super Mario World.

i dont get much time to play for the kids, they both play this as much as possible. one of few games they can both play together at same time. Avoids most arguments lol.

just bought this on your thread alone:w00t:

Lol there's a girl on here called Hodsey77.

Every time I fire up my PS3 she was either just on or mid-way through her level.

I was playing her 2 'created' levels this morning.

Your able to just pop in and out of your friends' games if you have a PS3 friend playing it at the same time.

Some bits of levels are only available/acheivable by cooperation with another player.

yup. both play lbp, same time, same console, same tv. You can get up to 4 players at once too! if you notice, many levels have areas that need 2 players to reach.

Make's the game feel even better value for that doesn't it

It's pretty cheap now too - like £21-£22 from Amazon (I think)

probably the best game we have ever had. The variant of levels is amazing. They loved the sonic type level...and spend hours making their own. it'd still be a bargain at £40
#12
i dunno it just doesn't appeal to me
#13
I did really enjoy the main levels (although short) but I'm struggling to see the appeal past that, so far the user created levels I've tried have been quite bland or where it's imaginative they're very short. Might need some time to pick up as I do think the presentation is excellent.

I know - the depth of variation is quite staggering, deffo too much to grasp at the very beginning - the sheer number of items used in the levels along with the completely off-the-wall elements mean there's almost an unlimited amount of variations possible level wise - with people creating their own levels I suppose the game has an unlimited amount of new levels to play.

I thought exactly that until earlier this morning.

Hehe! I saw you playing those this morning... I hope you 'hearted' me, lol!

Yea, my favourite game at the moment, I absolutely love it... I'm just trying to get 100% on all the levels now, so that I have all the objects, and then I'm gonna try creating some better levels. They were done when I first got the game, and I've learned so many more things now...

I was playing online with someone else this morning... did it say I was playing my own levels?!

:-D

I can't recall it saying precisely that, but it told me what level you were on haha.

You were playing this level that had 4 parts i.e. ....pt1 >>....pt2.

Your always on it! I logged in at about 8am sometime and it said you were online 3 hours earlier - watch out for those bags under your eyes :-D

I was trying to figure out that level of yours - the one with the bomb/mine at one end. I enjoyed your Xmas one, loved the raindeers 'n huge glacier!

Hehe! On the space one, you have to climb upwards, hopping between the planets, and then you fly a rocket up to the finish line... You'll have to have another go, see if you can beat my score, lol :p

I am always on it, aren't I?! I'm addicted, heheh! I just need 1 more heart on my Christmas level to get a trophy, so I keep checking whether I've got it yet.... how sad am I!?!?!

Yeah I'll give you a heart later - done.

How long did it take you to create your levels? many attempts aborted?

The space one took me ages, but it's 'cos I didn't know that you could use dark matter to make things stick in the air - kinda like a piece of blu-tack. If I redid it, it would probably take an hour or two.

The Christmas one I knocked up really quickly, but then have kept amending it when I've unlocked things like the backgrounds and more objects.

I need to do a new Christmas one, with a bit more to it... it's very basic...

My order was dispatched by amazon on Friday - can't wait to start playing :-D

Have seen some quality levels on Youtube, in partic the Mirrors Edge one :)

Yeah I could tell it was a lil basic - I enjoyed it though, weird how you had the plastic chattering teeth thingies blocking the rolling horses/donkeys, awkward woman! :w00t:

How do you play online with someone? Is there a set of items each - surely you don't have to share all the items?

Yeah I gotta delve into that - saw some amazing looking levels (Hodsey's included :giggle: )

You'll love it once into it
#22
The teeth and horses are just presents under the tree, lol! They don't really serve a purpose, hehe! Welll... I suppose you could use them to try and climb the Christmas tree, as there is a present at the top ;-)

When you choose a level, choose Play Online, and you'll play with someone else (up to 4 people).

Or, generally if you do Quick Play, you'll be online with others, but on a random level.

If anyone of the party gets an item, everyone receives it... so when I play with others, I get the bubbles that I've had before, if I can, just so that anyone who needs the item receives it too.
#23
Ah I get it now - i might have to barge into one of your session, as long as I'm not barred from your levels cos I'm not as far in as you are....

Yea, next time I'm on, we can play together, hehe!

You can press Start, and then Friends, and click Invite or Join, and we should be able to get a game together.

The good thing is, even if you're not that far in the main game, you can join someone else who is further, and if you play one of those levels, it is opened up for you to play offline... even if you haven't actually got that far yet :)
#25
So, are you still selling your sackboy?! I'm looking for Santa hats for my two, heheh!

:santa:
#26
Awesome game i love it :-D although it also took me a while to get into it, but when it hit me i was hooked. It is basically a truly original concept for a console with unlimited user generated content. What also hit me was the fact that online, people tend to work together and have a laugh instead shooting you in the face again and again.

This is just the first gameMedia Molecule have created who knows what they will surprise us with in the future

GET A PS3 AND BUY IT:thumbsup:

Hi :)

yeah - aside from the main story mode: LittleBIGPlanet, there's a friends planet which alows you to play levels created by friends - and also play recommended levels, some of which are masterpieces! The premise is indefinate.

Hodsey should know more about this. hint hint

Yea, pretty much. There is a Story mode, where you play the levels on the disc. Throughout these levels, you pick up 'prizes', which include costumes, stickers, objects and materials, to create your own levels with.

It's one of those games, that just gets better and better the more you play it - the more things you unlock, allow you to create better levels, etc.

People have created some amazing levels, including a working calculator; pinball machine; quiz show, etc. And of course, my Sleigh Ride and Planet Hopping levels, hahaha! :whistling:

I've played a couple of Sonic ones, both were pants, tho'...

Played an absolutely fantastic The Office USA level - was making one myself, and then played that.... kinda put my pitiful attempt to shame, heh! Although, I think I'll finish it when I can be bothered

There have been a couple of good Mario levels... one where you're in Bowser's Castle was pretty good.

Stop it! lol...You lot are making this game sound awesome! Are you sure you are not working for the LBP team by any chance? lol

I was about to play that exact level earlier! I got distracted tho.... - do they publish some of the better created levels when your online? Or was I just viewing your hearted levels? (think I was doing the latter lol)

An outing on the PlayStation Portable handheld console is being considered for next year for this title (or the technology behind this title).

Some of you may well be bored by my own praise for "LittleBIGPlanet", but if anybody is still undecided, here is a link or two, or even three, I have contributed to before (or my initial review of the Beta version of the title is mentioned in).

BFN,

fp.
