Does anyone have any advice or who to contact regarding the way to stop buildings etc being taken over by local merchants?

Theres a now closed down shop nearby and its supposed to be being taken over and being converted into yet another shop.

The whole community is against it and i would like more information if possible on how i can take matters further.

Have you looked up the address with the planning department, or regarding change of use etc.

Alot of the time the local council pushes things through rather quietly so people cant get their objections in on time.

So it was a shop and somebody wants to open another shop? Whats wrong with that?

its another type of shop if you catch my drift.

They would probably require a license from the local authority to open an adult themed shop. I think that when applying for a license notice of an application should be posted at the property and advertised in the local paper for any objections. Check at your Council offices at their licensing section.

The whole community is against it? You asked every one of them? I bet a lot would claim they were against it - while their wives were listening anyway :D

You have just got to be on a windup.

Maybe it would be better if the whole community would get together and find something for these yobbos to do. That would stop them hanging around the local off licence.

Why don't you sugest that at your next meeting ?

Surely if the whole community is against the shop it will just open, splutter along for a few months, then close down through lack of trade?

who said anything about a sex shop? its just another off license and the thought of all those "yobbos" hanging around getting pissed just seems so unreasonable.
.................

I recently moved from living above an off license, to start with the music system (with speaking set into the suspended ceiling) was too loud. This stopped after asking them nicely. Plus, the not closing on time and getting later each night was soon remedied by another visit from the local council.

The kids hanging about were always a problem, they used to hang about in the alley drinking at the end of my garden(although the shop always denied serving them). There were bottles etc. broken everywhere. Even after closing, the same bunch off about 15 kids hung around sometimes up until 2/3 am. They were all still at school. I blame the parents.

Trouble was, when I moved in it was just a nice newsagents. Then, even though there was plenty of local objection, they got their license.

I have to agree, I think that the people who are against the off licence due to the yobs, should combine forces and find somthing for the kids to do.

There was a problem in the village I grew up in, on one side were the posh kids, who's parents were well off, on the other side, a council estate, with kids who couldn't care less. Then the village church bought the old bank (there were 3 others in the village) and turned it into a youth project, which open after school, at weekends and in the holidays, my little sister works for them now, she had been going to the youth project since it opend. and now we don't have as many problems in the village.

So instead of petitioning to stop getting an off liscene put in (It's going to happen anyway) do somthing to give the kids somthing to do.
