I used to love taking my laptop into college to get my seed ratios up. There's just something magic about seeding something at over 2MB/s, and knowing how happy someone on the other sideof the world will be to see their superfast broadband connection finally paying off. There were some sheepish looks shared between my friends and I when the IT manager would walk into the room and start sniffing around, but nowt ever came of it.

But, yeah. I'm not going to beat an educational network with this piddly little 22mbit line, but I thought I'd share that with you anyway.

I paused my usetnet dls to do this (which was actually downloading at my full connection yay  so not sure why these results don't show this?)

Any recommendations for a home broadband provider (not cable) - it would have to be uncapped and fast as possible, budget say up to £25 max per month

(Apologies for the sligh thread de-rail!)

Also from o2, there's Be. They offer 24mbit uncapped, and are mostly pretty good, although they do require a 3 month cancellation notice period, which sucks epic-style. £22 for that. I'm going from Be to O2 as soon as my notice period expires, since O2 offer some obscenely good deals to O2 mobile customers. £60 TopCashBack back to you, too. Score.

mine is shocking, lol. Would o2 be better than aohell (aol)? Personally I have had no problem with aol but I would like faster speeds.

don't really know what you mean tbh. I think i'm on 2mb broadband atm. Just checked with o2 and I'm not within their coverage...:x

Your speed test results would indicate your on a fixed 1/2 meg circuit.

No it's the speed that AOL have configured for your line. If your on a fixed 1/2 meg line you could live on the exchanges doorstep and you would still only get a half meg. If you know how log into your router (if you have one and not a usb modem) and check your synch. Be back on in a bit nipper is shattered and needs to go to bed

logged onto router details and got this (not sure if its the right thing..)

DownStream Connection Speed 576 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 288 kbps

Does this mean I am limited to 1/2 meg?

Yeah I'm in the country about 3-4 miles from a town where the exchange is (i think...) Do you think AOL would do anything though? And I think theres virgin media cable under the road about 50 yds from my house (well ntl cables were layed there a good few years ago into the town) Wish I could get that...
