Whos the Best, Cheapest, Broadband ?? (full question in thread.)

Hello,

Having been a SKY connect customer for 6 months and getting the slowest speeds possible, following a lengthy complaint SKY have now released me from their Broadband and refunded me for the 6 months i was paying.

Now I need to get cheap broadband only as im still tied into SKY Talk for 12 months,

My exchange does not support ADSL+2, but states i should be able to get a connect of around 6MB.

My Sky rouer would connect to the exchange at 6.00 KBPS, but their throttling application was killing my connection due to the number of Connect users going via the exchange.

Any ideas on who best and cheap ?? I will also take into account QUIDCO cashback deals..
Thanks

Rick

O2 broadband is my recommendation. Quidco tracked and validated a couple of days after I signed up. You get £5 off a month If you are an o2 customer as well.

Having looked it up, if your wanting the cheapest possible connection I too would suggest O2 Access. There's £50 Quidco on offer and it's only £17.50 a month if your a o2 mobile customer. The first two months are free also.

If your looking for best speeds etc I would suggest Vivaciti Premium Home. It's expensive @ £26 a month but there is no traffic shaping what so ever !

Hope that help !

Avoid o2 Access like the plague, it is throttled to death, o2 on LLU is fine.

Hi there,

My exchange code is "MYCAL"

Thank you

The problem I have/had is that i was with SKy connect for 6 months, after complaints etc, they have advised that there is nothing that they can do to improve my SKY CONNECT connection which is throttled at peak times to 0.3 KBPSat peak times, (3pm to midnight)

Because SKY are unable to offer a better service and admitted this, they offered to "buy" me out of the contract,

Ideally.. i just wanted them to resolve the issue and provide me with a decent broadband service, but they would perfer to end the contract.

The problem i have is that i have 6 months left on SKY talk, and was only paying £10.00 a month for SKY CONNECT as i have TV and Talk.

Im wanting to spend as little as possible, get the best down load speed and unlimted or a high download limit.

128plant - I dont mind you tagging onto the thread.

I have just looked at O2 Access and its £22.50 a month - quidco gives £50 cash back, plus 2 months free, however its a 12 month contract..

Im sure there must be cheaper offers out there than that unless im missing something ??

Cheers

I see....... I was looking at O2 ACCESS.

Just ran a check on the £7.50 package... i cant get it on my exchange.. only O2 ACCESS.

You can get O2 Home Broadband Access
Free for the first two months
Access
Recommended for users who want a simple, fast and reliable broadband service and value for money.
£17.50 for O2 mobile customers
£22.50 all other customers
12 month contract applies

So not the best deal for my exchange... :-(
Any other suggestions?

Cheers

A lad I work with is with Talk Talk, and he seems to be having more issues than I had with SKY, their offshore call centre are also pretty usless..

Just looked at VIRGIN, £10 or £14 a month with a 40GB cap on the latter with no Quidco on Broadband only.

This is why SKY was so happy to cancel it for me within contract, its becuase they know I cant get it cheap anywhere else!

I would suggest you try TalkTalk, it's the cheapest and probably the fastest service available to you.

Yes the customer service is crap but there is a solution to that and that is in the form of an official TalkTalk supported forum which can be found below. You can solve all your problems here, if of course you get any !

Question -

On the Talk Talk essentials, do they shape traffic ??

Would it be on LLU on my exchange, ie using their own equip rather than BT's?

Cheers

P2P is shaped between 3Pm - 12Am I believe. Unfortunatly P2P includes the likes of BBC Iplayer, I'm not sure how it affects it though.

It would be through TalkTalk's LLU equipment which means there'll be no IP Profiles/Digital Line Management etc.

On the website I linked you to earlier (mytalktalk.co.uk) if you look up your exchange you can check to see if there are currently any capacity issues. You can also check if it is on the new Gigabit Backhaul (Improves capacity and improves connections at peak times)

I am not a TalkTalk customer at the the moment btw so can't comment on their services directly. I may be soon though.

Hope that helps.

I couldn't say for sure to be honest, as your exchange isn't unbundled your line would still be running on Bt equipment which in turns means you couldn't get the cheaper service offered by TalkTalk.

If your looking for the best possible connection I would seriously consider vivaciti premium home. If your looking for the cheapest connection I would look at the likes of O2 etc.

Hopes that helps.

If you don't have an LLU supplier at your exchange, then you will unfortunately have to pay more, there is not a good cheap supplier for non LLU lines.

Why not ask at a site like ThinkBroadband.?
