It's refreshing to see Vaughan set more attacking fields rather than his traditional method of having too many fielders located deep at mid wicket and cover. In the past he tried to stem the flow of runs with deep fielders but this time he has set more attacking fields and used the short ball at Boucher very well. However, England had the best of the conditions (placid pitch on the first day and cloud cover on the second day, conducive to swing bowling for Anderson and Sidebottom) and are still behind.

In the 2nd innings, Vaughan and Collingwood really need to sort out their movement. Vaughan was woefully late getting into position in the first innings, resulting in being late getting his head over the ball. Collingwood's lack of foot movement will result in him playing too many shots away from the ball.

England do have a good record at Edgbaston though and a lead of over 250 going into the final innings could prove difficult for SA if the pitch could offer traditional final 2 days of turn for Panesar.
