ppl may like collecting coppers to put into childrens bank accounts but is it really worth burning a whole in ur pocket just to save a few pennies?

Doesn't it make you feel good though, when you say "Keep the change"?

Usually end up putting it in a collection box if there's one there.

lol Yeah those pounds looking after themselves..... somewhere :|

I agree... basically, what sounds better, £13.99 or £14.. not the latter

WE know it doesn't make a difference in our minds, but sometimes we are fooled too and think of it as less!!!

Nice trick though!
#7
another reason is because if you come home from town & say, oh such & such was £13 from THIS SHOP or something cos you can't quite remember the exact price (£13.99). Might make you think that shop is cheaper than somewhere else ?
#8
If taking a penny off is such a good marketing strategy, maybe someone should open a shop next to a pound store and sell everything for 99p :D
#9
I tihnk their so cheap from not having the overhead of pennies, you have to look after them but pounds, as someone said earlier, look after themselves!
#10
it makes me laugh tho when they say buy this TV for under £100 and its £99.99p lol thats just mad

They have... in Basildon... 2 simular lines in stock, but different most of the time... :D

The '99p shop' doesnt roll off the tongue as fluently as 'the pound shop' though... so its still easier to call it a pound shop too :D:D:D

perhaps they should have called it 'the under a pound shop'... :D

i've always thought it woz bicuz people think that 99p is nothing so think its a bargain well not exactly and then have really paid 99p more. confusing but makes sense to me.

It only in the mind guys.
We feel good that we have not spend a pound on an item when actually we have just saved a penny.
£ 99.99 sounds lot cheaper than 100 pounds

It doesn't affect me.

Today I dropped £10 in the street and I couldn't be bothard to pick it up so I just left it there.

i read an article today in the guardian about how online stores based on the channel islands offer thing's for £17.99 (e.g. new season of scrubs) which is just a penny under the import threshold or something so they can make considerable savings on that, and "pass them on to the customer"

Another thing is, it's psychological.

People think it looks cheaper if its £9.99 than £10.
