And who said that british people are not fat ... hmm?!?

NOT all Americans are fat. Many Americans are very healty fit people.

However there are many many VERY VERY fat people in America.

This is becuase one of their "hobbies" is shopping in shopping malls, and these malls are full of shops that sell donuts, burgers, mexican food, pizzas, sweets, cakes and so on, all of which are full of fat.

Many also drive their cars everywhere so never get any exercise.

The USA is a DRIVING country not a walking country and it is actually very hard to go for a walk anywhere, it is easier to drive, even to the shop next door.

BTW. We are getting as bad in the UK. Next time you walk round a shopping centre see how many of the people are over weight.

tbh theres a hell of a lot of british fatties these days:?
#11
Where we live there are quite a few eastern European immigrants and if you walk around town on a sunday you can spot who they are a mile off by how healthy they look compared to the local population,
#12
The portions are too big. So many people eat whatever is on their plate even if they are full. Not me though, I feel sick if I eat too much, when I'm full I stop.

I was in Texas for a week or so, no-one walks there, it's unbelievable. They have drive thru's for everything where it's possible to drive thru, including starbucks, even drive thru banks (I kid you not). Even where they do need to get out of their cars, for example a mall car park, many people will ignore empty spaces af they're not close to the entrance, and will drive round for as long as it takes to get a closer space.

That said, obesity is not only an american problem, I saw a kid the other day the size of a house!!!

u seen the size of british people!!theres lot of fattys around here

That's a bit of a generalisation.
Isn't it also America that have a large amount of size zero people too?

I think there are lots of factors which result in all of us becoming more overweight than our ancestors.

As someone already said the use of cars........so we get less exercise
Invention and more readily available of TV and computer games in recent decades means we are sat on our bums and again not exercising.
fast food is frequently cheaper than healthy food so bad diet is associated with poorer communities.

Its unfortunte that food tastes so good and the 'bad' food is so much more appealing than the 'good'. (I have a very sweet tooth and love junk food)

personally I'm within my recommended BMI but I can see how easy it would be to eat what I actually wanted and put on huge amounts in a short time. Went on holiday for 10 days this month and put on 7 pounds. I don't see myself getting that off this side of Christmas.
#23
I have been in American restaurants whist visiting Florida where the US chilren were eating about 6 pancakes for breakfast and downing it with the largest glasses of coke.
Coke for breakfast.......what happened to milk or fruit juice.

I think you'll find that britain now tops the world in junk food consumption with the USA in 2nd place
#29
another thing were better at than the Americans keeping good diets.
#30
We are well on our way to catching them up obesity wise.
But i would think its all the fast food. there was documentary a while back, almost every other shop was a fast food one. Think it was new york.

I take it you've never been to America then??

As if you had you'd notice that they aren't all fat and walking down the street there is exactly the same as walking down the street here..........fat, thin, black, white, yellow etc etc.
#33
renown
here here!

there?? surely not :)

oh that cookie one looks well nice
#35
There's lots of reasons.
As has been said, the food is CHEAP there and much bigger portions and a lot of places are "eat as much as you like".
Everywhere is open much later and a lot of food places are open 24 hours.
A lot of places you're not allowed to walk and have to drive everywhere and they also have drive food food places, drive through banks (which are actually pretty cool if a bit surreal lol).
I have been going to america pretty much every year since i was 5 as my dad lived out there and i can see just why it would be SOOOOO easy to become hugely overweight over there.
If you like your food and drink (most places free refills) then dont go live in america lol.
