Why are people so dumb on eBay?

I've seen it time and time again, and still don't get it, but there must be a huge amount of rather dim people buying on eBay and paying over the odds for stuff that is easily found cheaper at more reliable points of sale.

Current example being the Watchmen: Director's Cut blu-ray, which i bought from PlayUSA.com for £17.99 delivered....people are bidding upwards of £22 for it on eBay....

i just don't get it.

Maybe these "dim" people aren't aware of this??? It's only daft if you actually know you can get it for a cheaper price elsewhere..... :whistling:

because people are stupid...most of us use google, some seem to use ebay to search for things
#3
some people dont like ordering from usa, usually need a credit card which a lot of people dont use

Some people get carried away with bidding on ebay! Also if you search around for stuff on the net you can normally get it cheap, people just don't have the "know how"!

I sold someone a pair of my wife's old slippers (well used and worn - about 6 years old) to a person with the ID footsaver). I only put them on to mortify my wife, but was surprised when they sold for a couple of quid + p&p:)

sites like PlayUSA are fine though, it's just an offshoot of Play.com, can use the usual Switch/Maestro cards etc.

fair enough.

i just find it odd that even in these "hard times" people will still pay more than they need to for things.

R2 doesnt come into it. The blu-ray is region free, it is american/canadian copies they are buying.

What annoys me is bidders scuppering people's listings by bidding way over the top on items with no intention of paying at all.

I recently kept my eye on a mobile phone being auctioned from £150. The first bid was £600, second bid was £999 and the winning bid was £1019. The seller had to re-list the item once the auction had finished.

Why do this? It's not funny.

shill bidding is the curse of Ebay, a lot more of this goes on than most people realise

Rightly or wrongly I bet most people feel more protected by buying off ebay through paypal than by credit card from the USA.

I don't think it is just an ebay trait though, people are seen to be stupid in all walks of life. You only have to look at some of the FS/FT 'my item hasn't turned up, what do I do' posts to see that.

The amount of people I speak to about this site that never knew stuff like this existed is huge, voucher codes are another, how many of your friends would even take 30 seconds to see if there is a voucher for something they are buying.

Quidco = free money for doing nothing, you would think everyone in the world would be signed up wouldn't you?

The fact that you are even on this site shows some sort of intelligence when it comes to not being ripped off.(misc should not be included in this statement)

i think paypal is another reason as its conveniant? like if play took paypal i would be spending a lot more there?
