Why Bother with HUKD?

Do people not get frustrated that GOOD deals are voted cold based on a stupid opinion? ie - "ooh that wont fit in the cupboard under the stairs - voted cold"

It seems people actually search for deals just to vote them cold. - shouldn't that be classed as thread spoiling?

For example, there's a few people on here that can't stand Acer. What if acer just so happened to make a fantastic laptop and sell it for £100 (i know that won't happen) so the deal is posted on here and instantly voted COLD!!!

I think people let their opinions get in the way of the question sometimes

I dont even look at the heat, I only look at the deal to see if it appeals to me and only ever vote cold if there is a better deal elsewhere.

I don't think it matters too much, if there are 50,000 members (or whatever I loose track) then a few people being silly really won't make much diference to a deal.

One of the problems on here is sometimes a deal that isn't mainstream gets voted cold because people don't understand exactly what it is, they must be addicted to voting and feel they need to vote on every deal. Personaly I only vote when I have an opinion one way or another and leave deals I know nothing about to others.

it aint so much the heat, its the abuse posters seem to be getting when posting deals

Absolutely, It puts you off posting deals.

It seems the only way to get a deal voted hot is to post a deal for cheap crisps/pop or mcdonalds/pizza hut/burger king!!!
#7
The problem with cold voters is that your less likely to find the deal if its voted cold.
#8
What frustrates me is that ive seen a deal posted by a new comer get voted into negative numbers then a few days later a regular posts the exact same deal and it gets voted into the hundreds! Why is it deemed less of a deal when posted by a newbie?

If and when I vote cold I always put a reason..sometimes I don't vote at all. Like yesterday I can see that the PayPal card would be good for some people and bad for others so I didn't vote either way, but I expressed my opinion. I do look at others opinions too and take them on board (or ignore them if it's a pathetic reason!) Temperature alone doesn't mean that much to me.

Then you get the people always on the look out for the next bargain to be grabbed so they can sell it on for a profit, they tend to vote cold to ensure there are more left for them, im guilty of buying the odd things found through here (and other sites) for a profit, but I will still vote it hot and leave the op rep. I only do this though when there is something more expensive I want to buy to raise funds for that rather than dip into the household finances.

Which deals in particular are you talking about? I have never seen someone say something like 'ooh it wont fit under the stairs, cold'.

In the deals you have posted the Acer laptop ended up scorching hot, so I can't see your grievances there, and the reasons for cold votes on the other deals you posted seem pretty justified.

What frustrates me is the alarming regularity that people start threads moaning about people voting cold. Do we really need a thread a day on this subject?

Unless HUKD change the forum rules so that you can only vote cold if a reason is given then it will not change. Can anyone see that happening? I can't.

I'm not talking about my own deals - i'm talking about deals in general. I;ve seen some great deals that have been voted cold on someone's PERSONAL opinion (how it's the wrong size/colour)

I am not referring to my own deals

I think she just means people giving stupid irrelevant reasons for something not being a good deal, some people seem to just enjoy making daft remarks on deals to boost their post count or just so they can say they have contributed.

If its something I have no/little knowledge off I will keep quiet, however if I post a deal and it is voted cold its usually for a reason and I dont mind hearing genuine reasons as it can save me money by pointing to one cheaper or pointing out its a rubbish product with many flaws), or point to a better equivalent

Have a look at this as an example:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1884830#post1884830

People voted it freezing cold simply because they didnt like the subject matter of the book. Another thread posting the exact same deal was voted around 60% hot, really not sure why: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/165928/lewis-hamilton-book-69p-home-bargai/
I think that was the first Deal that I'd posted on to these forums and it certainly distracted me into whether or not i should post any more on here.

im really sick of people voting various retailers cold just cos they have pet hate for a particular shop. Like someone posted coke 3 litres £1.49 to which someone posted its 2 for £3.00 in asda, now the tesco deal was in negative and only climbed to about42 heat whereas im sure if the asda deal had actually been posted it probably hit 300

i would say shaggy and i know im still a newbie but if OP dont include picture of product i dont pay much attention to what the deal is. The other poster was new as well it seem or least had low post count

Seems more like a general rant to me, fair enough if you actually have some examples where people have done this, point them out here (and report them to the mods if necessary so they can give the culprits a slap on the wrist).

Well I think Shaggy's post says it all really - some of the comments on there are pretty ridiculous!

I dont think this really needs any examples, read through the first page, im sure you will spot them yourself, it has become the norm now and if everyone spent their time reporting the patheticness not alot else would get done.

That over 4 months old and the first post that is linked is a repost of the second (hence maybe why some of the cold votes)?

Some thread(s) obviously made you start this thread and it wasn't those ones...

Thats not really the question in hand?!

yet another correlation between hot and negative feedback on the same thing:
thread posted by me when O2 had the info on for a short while on their web site:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204739
voted freezing cold with complaints of 'phone is too expensive'

thread posted yesterday on the same thing, with more expensive pricing , and is voted hot instantly:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/236731/showthread.php?t=236731&page=8

(showing as 27 degrees hot now, but im sure it was 200 degrees plus this morning LOL)
