Heard this on the radio yesterday and its sooo true and really bugs me!

Why cant we use our iphones, touch screen phones or the touch mouse pad on laptops when we have our gloves on? What is it about our skin that makes it work.

Its like the phone says "you wouldnt open your door to a man with a balaclava on so im not opening my access to a gloved finger!"

Its been my first winter with my iphone and it drove me mad having to take my gloves off all the time to use it! And i dont want fingerless gloves - They wont keep my fingertips warm!

Because your body emits electric pulses and without the contact from your skin you don't make a electrical conection therefore the screen doesn't work. :)

^^ You can sew some conductive thread through the finger tips on your gloves ;)

It's the type of screen the iphone uses, it uses capacitive screen which requires your body to make an electrical connection with the device. Gloves insulate you from this unless they are conductive as well.
Capacitive screens as accurate as the more common resivtive touch screen found in most PDA devices. These requires a stylus or finger nail etc to operate.
They do make stylus for capacitve screens now though.

The comment about about it uses heat, that is so funny made me laugh for awhile lol

"You’ll need conductive thread, a sturdy needle and enough sewing capability to execute a few stitches without stabbing your eye out."

lol, can't wait to see this thread!

LOL, "I've lost an eye whilst making iPhone gloves"

This is why it's not always bad to have a resistive screen, aside from being more accurate it's very useful this time of year being able to use the phone with gloves on.

can't use a stylus on the iphone. although they have made a special stylus that emmits an electric pulse which should work.

because the micro organisms in your brain fire a signal to your hands which allows the neurotransmitters to connect with the receiver inside the iphone which then realises if it is a human hand which is touching the screen, this then causes a chemical reaction inside the phone where the lithium ions attract and then send the electronic signal to the chip inside which allows for the touch part of the screen to be used

All this science talk is very confusing. But thanks everyone, rep added for all of you!

And the next thing... if i want to do it myself where do i get the conductive thread from?
