Why do I get charged for using paypal gift?

I have heard people saying that using paypal gift means that neither the sender nor the receiver have to pay fees. Is this right?
Every time I pay a seller I get charged a fee or get the option to charge the seller

Paying PPG you will be expected to cover the fees - however, if you already have funds in your Paypal account there no fees will be charged

well does it depend what card you use then?

when I have nothing in my account but pay by PPG from my current account I get charged.

i dunno brah but you should get it sorted out.

my credit card expired once and when i made a payment it went via "e-cheque" and took a fracking age to appear in the other person's account.

As best I understand it:

The only method to not get a charge with PPG is when you choose 'Instant Bank Transfer', which indeed requires you to have your bank account added to your Paypal account. If you make the payment via card or e-cheque (but nobody uses that do they? What with it taking about two weeks to clear!), you will be hit with a small fee.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot that of course no charge when you have a balance in your Paypal account, as mentioned.

when I use it, its mainly for online retailers and I never get charged when I have invoice etc, only very rarely will I do a transaction by PPG, so the few pence here and there doesn't really bother me

Absolute rubbish, I never have money in my paypal account and never get charged, you get charged if it's over a certain amount, I was sending £45 it tried to do fees, I sent it as two payments, one of £20 and one of £25 and there were no fees.

calm down dear

I do have a bank account attached, maybe it is only for certain cards?

So if I verify my Paypal account (let them make 2 deposits and confirm them), then I won't get charged PPG fees at all? :)

I have just started the process, just checking that's what I need to do

I said it's only free if you use a bank account in reply to the OP saying they had one linked to Paypal,i know it's free if you have a Paypal balance and that's been covered previously.

Also a CC incurs fees so i'm not sure why you're saying it's free, unless you've opted to have the receiver pay it.

If you pay by gift, by credit/debit card it's not free, giving out incorrect info helps no-one:thumbsup:

I await a re-appearance and him disputing the facts and saying he's never been charged before :giggle:

You have to link your account directly to your debit account, i.e account number and sort code, not too your debit card.

Mines been like this for years, never been charged.
