Falklands - because its a land mass bordering on the antartic, then UK has a claim....probably nearer to the Antartic than Chile or Argentina

Correct - and the main reason Argentina wanted to annexe them.

I think it would have been handed back by now if it hadn't been for the invasion by Argentina. Might be a couple of generations now before it becomes politically acceptable......

I dont - and for the reason you said.

Gibraltar wont be given back to Spain either. Its too important... plus the population (like the Falklands) want to be under British rule.

You would be happy for North Korea to be living on the Isle of Wight with a large Naval presence there?

clearly the population is a result of the occupation, the natives/rightful owners flee, become dissident.

Think your find the I.O.W. has British people living there, and has done for a very long time.

I really get the impression you hate the UK going by your usual comments. Ever thought about emigration?

So your happy to live in a country which ruled half the world to become great, then slate it every second to do wanting to do the same.

Or would you rather england was LEDC?

I know wikipedia isn't the font of unassailable knowledge but according to it the Falklands was set up as a colony on the say so of both the British consulate and pre-Argentina by someone called Luis Vernet in 1829. He then proceeded to seize American fishing boats and get the colony smashed by said Americans. After Vernat was replaced by another Governor the islands turned into a penal colony that ended up in the hands of the British in 1833.

Highly doubt four years of pre-Argentinian (United Provinces of the River Plate) rule stands up well against 160 of British as far as claims of ownership go in the eyes of the people who live there.

Why?
penguin farming of course
#23
Forgot to add that with the icecaps melting oil and mineral deposits can now be accessed that previously could not.

i'm probably a result of britain trying to rule the world. i'm a proud brit, just i want a republic britain. allow norn iron to become a sovereign state - whether it joins Eire would be at its own jurisdiction.

britain also holds claim to jersey - which should also be sovereign. of course, were scotland and possibly Wales to take independence, england would be on a level footing with the likes of Germany.

I get what your saying but jsut dont agree as the falklands is about 150 times futher then the falklands are from argintina. So a bad metaphor i think. Also poles are not inhabited by a nation (i know thats ambiguos) so why should anyone just say we own it cos we are closest (esp if they have not been there, we have as much right as anyone else) I do agree extending our rights is **** but for land we claimed first i do not see a problem.

Also look at China claiming Taiwan, its miles away and the people of taiwan dont agree.
