idk, im scottish and i wanted button and brawn to win but i would have been happy had barrichelo won it cos he deserves it

but in response to your question its not a patriotic sport as they arnt representing their country, i dont get why they play national anthems for tht reason

probably because an average driver got lucky at the start of the season when his team took advantage of the new rules to give him a faster car than the others. Fortunatly for him the other teams took longer than expected to catch up. He'll be wowing the middle of the grid again next season.

Complete respect for jenson button and im glad that he won the title today after that impressive display of overtaking

However Jenson Button has a sort of smug/arrogant aura around him in contrast to other drivers such as vettel and barichello

I think this is what sways the british fans towards the foreign drivers rather than button

Im sorry but jenson button is not an average driver...this clearly shows that you know nothing about f1..even when he was at Honda you could see that he was a special talent and listen to any commentator and you will hear them say that button has the most effective and smoothest steering action :x

i agree, an average driver wouldnt have dominated like he did earlier in the season, also tht drive today, an average driver would not have been able to do

Well done to Jenson Button and to Brawn GP. Brawn weren't lucky, they read and understood the rules (or perhaps interpreted them) more effectively than the other teams. It is s shame he has limped home towards the end of the season but the whole point of a championship is that it won through being consistent. He has been consistently average since half way through the season which helped him maintain the position his flying start gave him. No F1 driver is average, it takes a lot of talent to simply keep the car on the track. All of Button's feedback in testing will have helped make the car such a rocket compared to the rest of the field at the start of the season. F1 is about more than the race day.

Think its a bit more patriotic this time as we have a Brit driver in a British ran and owned team.

he is an average driver otherwise he would've won more than he has. next season just as he has done in the 2nd half of this season he will again flatter to decieve and finish halfway down the field with the odd flirtation with a podium. It's the football equivalent of greece winning the euros or some random mid ranking golfer winning the open.

how well did barrichellos car perform in the 2nd half of the season?

Anybody or any team who wins a tournament/championship deserves it. That's the whole point of having a championship, so the most deserving, consistent team/person wins. What you state Button will do is exaclty what has hapened to Hamilton this season and I wouldn;t call him average. Idount he will win the championship next year but then not many drivers have won it back to back, thats what makes those that do, such as Schuey, so special.

Ants, you are just missing the point of a championship. It's not about the most wins, they tried to introduce that idea before the start of this season and it got laughed out of the place. It is about scoring the most points over the season, which Button did, so he deserved the championship.

he only got those points at the start of the season for the already mentioned reasons. I'm not missing the point of what a championship is:?

It doesn't matter at what stage of the season he got the points. If it did they would have some sort of weighting system where drivers got more points in the 2nd half of the season, which I'm sure you'd agree would just be silly.

Button has scored 28 points from the last 9 races (after 61 from the first 7) which is pants, but Vettel (who has the most from the last 9 races) only scored 45, which isn't that great in itself (ave. 5 per race)...... no one has really stood out in the second-half of the season, so Button's performance over the first few races makes him a deserved champion.

Next year will give the best indication of who is the best driver, as with no fuel stops team strategies go out of the window, and it'll be down to the best racers

+1 but ti will take away a huge tactical side of the sport which i will miss

Good stats. Shows how open the 2nd half of the season has been. People like Webber getting chances to win is great to see. Even with no fuel stops a lot will come down to the car. The commentator (Brundle?) made an interesting point in todays race; he reckons Button has overtaken more than most other drivers. Of course, he has had to as he has been pretty poor in qualifying, but shows when it comes to out and out racing he is a good driver.

Can i point out to ants that david coulthard did not win a world championship in his career yet is considered one of the best british drivers ever

So stop with your foolish uneducated comments

as much as I like coulthard he was also average not bad or terrible just average. Sort of like an aston villa of the premiership. He may win the odd thing here or there and for 3/4 of a season may flirt with a top 4 finish but ultimately always just falls short.

Every driver that competes in f1 is a good driver otherwise they wouldn't be there in the first place..they would be stuck in karting or gp2..So the drivers that are challenging for titles and racking up points on the board every season are considered as excellent :)
