Nonsense to me plenty of public buildings.

Surely children would be better of at school and parents in work.

Where I lived before they install a portakabin with a portaloo outside. There is a school just minutes from its location too.

For several reasons amongst which

The polling station ideally should be in the polling district
Where possible public buildings should be used
It has to be accessible to all, eg must have wheelchair access
It has to have it's own entrance - not shared with anyone
It has to be secure
It has to be roomy enough
There is a statutory duty for them to be used if needed

There are others too but those are the ones I remember

Handy if you need some bread and milk. Seems very thoughtful for the old folk! :-D

whatsThePoint
The school is the only public place most people know and most people have one local to them

Not sure what part of the world you live in, but I'm sure there are lots of public buildings around. If not, use a marquee. Why deny kids education especially when parents get chastised if little Jonny doesn't turn up to school. Plus parents are now needing to take time off work for some old duffer who wants you to vote for them!

Won't that be the parents doing that themselves?

And do you really want this man running your school system, who is actually Jeremy Kyle with a pair of glasses.

What else will he be teaching your children.

it is done to ensure teachers get their full allocation of 200 days off a year to match MPs ;)

whatsThePoint
what other public buildings are near most people?
Will you be paying for a 30-40 marquees?
Have you seen how many days kids get off anyway, whats one more

We have lots (which is why I was asking where you lived!) We wouldn't need any marquees.

And my logic was based on importance and "education, education, education"..........

I would let people vote under my gazebo in the garden.

If it meant that kid's got to go to school and parent's to work.

My sons school is being used but they don't get the day off!! They're only using part of the hall, nothing to stop the rest of the school functioning.

Is all to do with safeguarding - if the school can host the Polling and keep the pblic away from the kids then its ok. If there is no way to stop the public from wandering round the school then they shut the school.
Its to keep the kids safe to be honest.
My daughter is off school, yet my school remains open - the only pain in the bum for me is that we can't get out cos we can't leave the car park else we wouldn't be able to park again :)
