Wife is 40 next month --- SSssssshhhhh ! WTF can I get her ?????

Oh boy is this post likely to be abused, but here goes.

I managed to get her a lovely Gold and Diamond watch (courtesy of Amazon via HUKD) but am now completely lost as to what to get her.

She is Mum to our 3 kids and doesn't drive. She will not help with ideas, so rather than getting a new ironing board or something, I thought I'd put this out there.

Looking forward to the replies ;)

Get a babysitter and go away for the night. That would be worth a million pounds to me!!! Possibly to a spa. Don't know where you live but I went to Hoar Cross Hall for the night, it was excellent value for money for all the meals and stuff included. I would love that as every birthday / christmas present. Or some really expensive underware. Something that she would never buy herself ( by that I mean because of the cost not the crotchless design!!)
#3
If you've already got her a lovely watch, why are you wondering what to get her??

OP for my 40th I got a crystal ornament to keep (I collect Crystal & I'm Mrs Gaz) and then we went away a few months later to Vegas & the Canyon with friends while my parents looked after the 3 kids for a week. For hubbys 40th on 1st March we went away to the midlands & stayed at a DeVere Hotel Staverton Park for 2 nights while my parents had the kids (again). Hubby has reconciled with his birth mum & her family so we had a very special weekend as we went out for a family meal that evening, Even the kids behaved brilliantly.

So my suggestions would be a special ornament or keepsake or a night away being spoilt.
#9
Yes, the night away sounds good. A weekend would be better - w/out the kids of course. Usually some good vlue weekend breaks around for two with dinner, etc, as long as you wait until the Easter hols are over. Good luck!

 Yes

My mum was depressed on her 40th because she hardly got anything and nobody paid any attention to her. She said she wasn't bothered but she obviously was. Women turn weird on the 40th.

as you said you have 3 kids so go out and buy small bottle champagne - few roses make sure you have vase - little vases asda / tesco for a couple of quid - on the day tell her to stay in bed and get a breakfst tray with champers and chocolates - you and kids take it together - ok i know drinking in morning not the done thing but it is her 40th.....

also buy her one of these

Women turn weird on the 40th.

You got that bit right, at 40 my neighbour started reclaiming her youth by dressing in her daughters revealing outfits and getting so drunk she did not reject the advances of a drunken man over her bin ... made Liz Mcdonald from corrie look like class!!!
Of course I am not saying all ladies do this once they hit 40, far from it:-D

Turning weird because no-one pays any attention to you on your birthday - who would believe it? Women eh?? Must be the hormones. Joking.
Big cards from everyone with 'I love you' on them.
I would have not liked a w/e away from my kids on my birthday at all, so might have to check out carefully if that's in the pipe-line.

Def not holly100's link ^^^:-D

Big 4-0.... Uh -ohhh!

I saw a good deal on here for GHD Hair Straighteners - EVERY giril likes them!! ....

Tiffany? Chains aren't that expensive in there? Some pretty earings aren't too expensive...;-)

The picture frame is a good suggestion earlier! (Although its one of those things we all would like - but nobody really buys it - coz its not perceived as bing that exciting! ):?

How about a makeover?? NO! a proper one!

None of that cheap tack that Department Stores do trying to get you to buy their cosmetics...:

BUT

If she is sensitive i can feel the same resopnse to the ironing board!! LOL!!

Erm, how about - A new mobile? That way you will know when she is coming to GET YOU!

A nice weekend away from this AWFUL weather to Rome or somewhere similar?

A meal just for you two in an EXPENSIVE ROMANTIC rstaurant?

Alternatively, take her down the pub wiv ya mates, followed by a game of footy, and a curry!

That oughta do the trick!!

:)

I meant she turned weird after her birthdayness. On the day of her birthday she was just depressed. The thought of me turning 20 soon makes me depressed also, but I can imagine its definately not the same as its a 20 year difference :-D

My tip to you is to find out from friends/family if she has always wanted to go somewhere, but never had the time or money.
I'm also 40 next month, but it's already cancelled because my other half hasn't saved for my dream present which he has been aware of for 10 years, but hey ho!

Good luck in finding something special for her.

We (me and her son) did a surprise get together of her best friends and work colleagues at her mums house so she had absolutely no idea. In fact we said we were taking her somewhere she hadn't been before in the car, blindfolded her, drove around in different directions so she had no idea where she was going.

Prior to this we had spent a couple of weeks making a scapbook of her 40 years, photo's from when she was a baby to the present. Landmarks in her life and all the other wonderful memories and stuff associated with her. It was all hand made and mostly by her son so although amateurish she knew it had been made with copious amounts of love and care.

Someone made a lovely cake, family did an informal buffet, the whole thing was filmed and photographed for the next big one (60 probably, lol)

Taking off the blindfold on entering the front room totally put her in shock as she hadn't a clue and she sat there crying with happiness for a good few minutes and thoroughly embarrassed and enjoyed herself .

The above I was told was worth more than any gold watch or any other extravagence. Everyone's different though I suppose so you would do well to know what will bring a tear to her eye and a memory to store away.

Best of luck OP !

Walked past Venture once last year with her and kids. Cost me a grand for some pics, so I think she's OK for these, but thanks for the help.

Go to the ICE HOTEL................................... different & romantic!

Ok as you always do the romantic type thing why not do something really childish. Stop at Alton Towers hotel, as you seem to be midlands area, even better stop in the cadbury suite. YUM YUM. Or go quad biking or treat her to a racing experience (she doesn't have to drive) Look at some of the adrenaline packages that are available. Or a day at the races? Hire a bouncy castle? Keep us updated on what you decide on.

a younger man ?

I turned 40 last October!!!:x

I was very sulky about it......didn't want a party or any fuss(what on earth is there to celebrate!!)

My Oh and mates insisted I go out,and I'm glad I did,not a big party but a good night out with friends did me a world of good.

I got a camera and mp3 for my prezzies of my OH....it was what I wanted,so not exactly romantic gifts.....but they cost a few hundred,so I was happy with that!:whistling:

Jewellery is always good,so the watch is a great start.....maybe an eternety ring, sparkly diamonds never fail to impress,or possibly some classic diamond stud earrings.

And most important of all................tell her how fantastic she looks and that she looks the same today as she did when you met!!:)
