Wii Backups

Hi guys,

I cuirrently have several Wii games that are getting scratched & damaged. I dont wish to damage them to an unreadable state, so I am therefore getting my Wii chipped.

Where is the best place to get my backup games from. Of course I only want the games I already own the originals for.

If you want to PM me instead to avoid others seeing, then that is fine by me :)

Search for the bittorent thread on here....full details on how to set it up and get it running are no doubt in there. :)

just download bit tornado a bit torrent type of software http://www.bittornado.com/download.html

download the stable one click on mirror 1

once done install it

then select a torrent from on the websites

then save it to your desktop

then open it up with bit tornado

and then it should start downloading.

All I've heard is that the newer Wii's have had the circuit board changed to stop the chips from being soldered in without major equipment

Aparently the firmware can also check for mods and mess up the wii read this article http://wii.ign.com/articles/811/811064p1.html
#8
the new firmware hasnt messed any wii mod up so far except one person whos said that they couldnt load backups or original games after updating but other people with the same mod havent had any problems so it might be something wrong with his wii or mod.

so theres nothing to worry about yet. and i dont think there will be anything to worry about as most mods dont mess with the drives code and only start working once a backup game is inserted.

but the best place to get legal roms is usenet, it costs sometimes but is worth it 110% as download speeds are always maxing out your connection.

you can try using the free one posted in the freebies section to get used to downloading things and then sign upto newshosting or giganews etc

hope that helps

The only thing i've heard about the latest firmware is that it stops Freeloader working so you can no longer play Gamecube imports - Which is a bit **** tbh.
#10
Getting it chipped in a bit :)

Trying to download games though via Torrents, and the speeds are appauling :(
#11
yeh mate, get usenet access via the free server posted in the freebies section, if you need any help pm me and il tell ya how to download etc. you get a constant speed unlike torrents and it always maxes out your connection, im on a 4mb connection and it takes me about 1.30-2 hours to download a backup.

cheers mate - i'll give you a shout when I get back :)
#13
The speeds are appaling because you probably need to forward some ports check out portforward.com . Also you need find files with plenty of seeders
#14
my speeds are terrible 400+kb/s takes 4hrs to acquire a game i already own
#15
All ports are sorted mate, it's just that torrents take an age !!

I'll look into the usenet stuff now :)

Any helpful tips or links will be gratefully recieved via pm

Affectively, yes.

What ISP do you use? Does the free newsever have binary newsgroups? If it doesnt, then you would need a third party company for access. (Most dont that I know of)

I would recommend "usenetsever.com" which costs about £7.50 per month - but its retention (ie length of time available) is now about 100 days - which is excellent. (When I started using them, it was only about 2 to 3 days!) You will also max out your connection with them. For me, I can get a 4.3GB DVD in under an hour with my connection.

You would also need a client (software) to download. I personally use "newsleecher" which is excellent. Think its about $20 for a year. You are also able to do searches for specific or generic things. eg a film title or perhaps "nds" for all nintendo ROMS. (Just examples - nothing more) I personally just do searches now. I used to download ALL headers from sepecific newsgroups - but no longer do this.

The only other thing you need is software called smart par. (Google it) Because many items are posted in .rar (compressed zipped type files), a DVD for instance is likely to be 94 50MB files. Now if one of those files is corrupt or incomplete, you will not be able to recreate the ISO image or complete file. Par files, enable you to recreate full files, even when you have some complete files missing. This does happen very often, but downloading some of the par files as well, means you get there in the end.

Ive used usenet binaries for about 10 years with usenetserver.com and I'd never consider using any other method to download. By far the best and quickest way and whilst it may not be the cheapest (bit its not expensive either), its the only way to go. Anyone else that uses usenet will I'm sure tell you the same thing.

Edit: Since you were asking about Wii...... I just had a quick look and found over 200 Wii ISO images. Is that enough?:whistling:

Right - can someone confirm the below for me 1st before I take the plunge, been researching over the weekend........

1 - Get a news server (found an unlimited one for $15 per month)

2 - Get NZB file website (found one with premiuim access for 25p week)

3 - Download files with client (such as GrabIt - free at http://www.shemes.com/)

4 - Use GrabIt to download & open NZB file & Grabit will then download all associated files from my newsserver automatically & just leave the files for me to burn)

5 - Is this when I use SmartPar to make sure the files are complete ?

6 - Burn image

Cheers

All depends on line speed, usenet is a faster constant connection v.good for new items, but not so good for old more specilist stuff IMO.

yep thats fine mate, you can also use quickpar which imo is the best and easiest. you can also set grabit to automatically scan and repair and extract the files and delete them after extraction so your left with an iso etc.

that is the wonder of torrents, very easy to track and monitor what people are doing.
#36
Do US originals work on UK modded consoles or do just US backups work on UK modded consoles ?
#37
The modded consoles accept everything
#38
ChrisUK you can just buy them from the internet and save the hassle of downloading, patching and burning.

they only cost £3.50 a pop. I can PM you the website from where I get them from for the 360.

I presume you are getting the cyclowiz for the Wii?
#39
Do you need to do anything to the US games that are D/L or do they just work ?

I heard somthing about paper mario killing consoles ?

Also are PAL games any different from the US ones, in terms of full screen/speed etc
#40
