Read that.

Sure you will burn a few calories doing it... buts its no real substitute for the gym

It isn't but how often do you go to the gym? I signed up nearly 3 years ago and I've been about 6 times. I've been on my Wii Fit 4 times so far (only had it 4 days), so the way I think, if I'm doing exercise its better than sitting on my bum thinking about doing exercise.

I would concentrate on your diet and then build up the fitness slowy.

Search the forums on menshealth website (eating right forum) which has thousands of useful posts.

If on a budget I would chose a skipping rope, jogging and some weights to start off lightly, over a wii with plenty of resources on the web for skipping and weight routines.

I do own wii fitness, its fun and can help as part of a routine to lose weight though I dont think to quite the same degree as the things I mentioned above. Depends on individual goals and what you are expecting for the wii to achieve.

if you want to lose weight then doing something is better than doing nothing, personally i go to the gym as often as i can be bothered (normally 3-4 times a week) and on the days when i really dont feel as motivated i use wii fit.
Wii fit is no substitute for the gym tho but can still help so long as you use it long enough to breath hard and sweat a bit.

Menshealth has female posters too, is just an overall excellent website with a sub forum dedicated to eating the right foods and others for exercise.

Healthy eating independant of sex :)

Dumb idea thinkin he wii fit will actually get u fit!! Its a balance board innit? So you are going to be stood still on it shifting your weight about basically, i fail to see how thats gonna get your heartrate up into the fat burning zone!

There is a lot more to it than that (jogging / yoga etc).

its a great way for beginners to lose weight assuming you have cut back to a sensible eating plan as well. Its not like you can do wii fit regularly and eat mcdonalds cardboard lumps of fat all the time :-D

csiman - I completely agree!

Yoga isnt fat burning and how the hell do you jog on a wii board that isnt easier to do without it???

Its like some people at my gym who think they have burnt off so many calories cause the treadmill said they have, when in fact they have just been doing a leisurely walk on it for an hour, the body is super efficient at walking and it doesnt get the heart rate upto the fat burning zone, break a sweat or it aint working, simple as ;)

Wii fit actually looks fun and i bet its addictive, and i bet its really good for future games like snowboarding skateboarding etc, but to think you are gonna lose weight off it over a gym membership is just plain dumb.

Are you trying to justify your gym membership lol

Anyway, no-one has said wii fit is superior or can even compete with a gym. That would be dumb

wii fit does have jogging btw :-D

Oh mine is justified alright ;)

The OP is actually conteplating that the wii fit may be better than the gym

Jogging???? U mean stationary stamping on a plastic board more like!!! Why on earth do you need a 70 quid bit of plastic to jump up and down on the spot :p

As ive said, might be fun for games, not for getting fit, and ive seen MANY threads on various forums by people buying it for exactly that!!!
