all i will say is do NOT solder yourself unless you are an expert, its very very tricky, small area to work on and very delicate

There's clip-on shouderless chips now, aren't there.

I completely recomend www.disqworld.com the wii forum in there has everything you need info, modders and a lot of friendly peeps ;)

Also just so you know there are software around that allow you to chip you WII to allow you to play backup copies. I know someone who has done this and works fine for him. But you do need Zelda original game and a SD memory card to do this. Information is floating around on the web...

This may save you opening your WII and ruining your warranty! and also wont cost you anything if you have Zelda and SD card.

I have used both

www.wii-chip.co.uk and www.360upgrades.co.uk

Both really great, just check your seriel number to know what chip you need.

Really easy to do if you get it on a wii-clip

This has now been tracked by nintendo and the latest frimware update for the wii 3.3e disables the exploit, but there are similar methods being developed using SD homebrew channels, as I said before the forum in disqworld.com has a lot of good info and trusted modders

So you can firmware flash your wii without opening it up similar to PSP?

using the sd card slot you can add 'channels' to your wii menu i.e. homebrew programmes that allow you to use floors in the wii such as the Zelda twilight hack as its known. This itself has been stopped by nin but other mehtods exist as far as i know, including downgrading firmware from 3.3e to 3.2e which allows the hack to be used, all very complicated, I dont actually have a modded wii or use the sd slot as I prefer to buy games they are pretty cheap for wii, but a friend is a big gamer and he's kept me up to date and showed me the above forum where he gets his info

i did this (in fact only reason i got my wii)

i have since sold my wii as keeping up with what games u can and cant play (due to firmware updates) and what will and wont brick it was almost a full time job.
