It only works on old firmware, best on 3.2.

If you update, you'll lose all your hard work!!

do not

If you end up on 3.4, the softmii package includes the ios downgraded to 3.2 so it can be homebrewed

and also install the hacks so you don't get prompted with the disc update rubbish too

do you need to chip the wii for that? or can that be done through the hombrew channel aswell? i know that you can do gamecube games, how about full wii ones?

I used the softmii package. So no, soft modded rather than with a wiikey. Did it last week and yes, all backups are working fine from standard dvd-r discs.

Difference between softmod and chip is the speed the disc reads at. On a softmod it reads at 3x, and with a chip at 6x. So loading times may be a tad bit quicker, not that i've noticed though

The new update has a few nice features(SDHC compatibilty is the one I want), but not worth updating until it all becomes clear.

If you have the hack already working, then you can recover the hack if you updated to 4.0 by mistake.
I'm on 3.4, and will stay on that for now.
