Link with clarification

If you were born in the United Kingdom to parents who are not British citizens and are not legally settled here

Even if you were born in the United Kingdom, you will not be a British citizen if neither of your parents was a British citizen or legally settled here at the time of your birth. This means you are not a British citizen if, at the time of your birth, your parents were in the country temporarily, had stayed on without permission, or had entered the country illegally and had not been given permission to stay here indefinitely.

Under EU rules any Mother who bears a child within it's borders is granted citizenship until the child is 18 years old.

This is due to the fact that the child is considered a EU resident.

I am assuming that the Father is European?

I have several friends whose partners have been granted 18 years citizenship through this process. They are in Sweden and Spain, but the rules apply here.

There is precisely one circumstance when you automatically get British citizenship at birth - if one or both parents are British citizens.

we had a case in Bristol where an Asian mum going through citizenship died after a hospital error whilst in childbirth.

the father who was living here whilst waiting for his application was deported with the baby
