Will Do It All Focus give us a credit note for a new table???

Hi everyone. Just wondered what everyone thought on this really. We bought a garden table and chairs set from our local Focus which was closing down (Feb). Well this last wednesday it was a nice day so we got it out of its box and set it up, parasol and all, it was only a small glass table. Well, we went into the kitchen and heard a smash, the parasol had fallen to the side and actually shattered the glass. It could of been such a nasty accident, I have two small children, 1 and 3, they had fortunately at the time gone into the house. I have since had to email Focus (wed) giving all the details, like maybe there was a weakness in the glass etc. We had not even sat at the table so I am abit fed-up. What does everyone think? Do you think Focus will take responsibility for this because it was brand new? Or because it was only a £60 set, is it just what you'd expect. I'd greatly appreciate what you all think.

Hi, It had a metal frame where the pole for the parasol went through at the top and bottom to keep it secure. I know you can get Parasol weighted stands but it seemed quite secure without one and there was no mention in the instructions advising us to get one.

even if it wasnt in a base there should be a metal ring or something in the circle in middle which should have stopped this

if they argue this case tell them it should have been provided or said it needed 1 in instructions

so the wind took at smashed your table, and thats focus fault

It did, im assuming the parasol was not weighted enough and either took by wind, or was just to heavy for the table

I wouldn't be surprised if they have received other complants. We can't be the only ones. The table did seem really secure with the parasol going through two parts of the metal frame. But the table was quite small so maybe thats why it was cheap?

the table was to small for the parasol, think yourself lucky your children werent out there rather than trying to get money back for something you could have prevented, nobody would put a heavy parasol through a small glass tanbe without a parasol mount
#13
We thought we had a bargain but unless Focus let us have a credit note towards another table (which will not be glass) It wasn't a bargain at all.

did parasol come with set?

If you are sold something you do expect it to do it's job. I got this table for the family. I expect a refund rather than being sent something unsafe and I think other people should be warned. I haven;t got money to burn on garden tables and expect Focus to sell safe stuff.

Do you have a product code or model number or something to identify what you bought.

These things are all made to strict safety guidelines, I very much doubt the glass was too weak or the parasol too big for the table etc.

It sounds to me like it was either assembled incorrectly or damaged at some point in which case you should have noticed the damage during assembly unless of course the damage was done after.

It is at Focus and it is an Antigua 6 piece table and chairs set SKU 185380

It was so simply to assemble that it certainly wasn't that and we didn't notice any damage.

I think I will just have to wait and see what happens with Focus. Thank you to everyone that has given useful advise. I don't need to come on here and be accused of damaging the table after myself, that is completely useless advise and did not happen.

The table I can assure you was put together correctly. I don't know why you are so negative, have you had a bad day mate? No damage done after,I think it just cheaply made. Hopeing to get a refund shortly, will keep you posted no doubt.

No i've had a good day thank you, i've just been to the funfair with my daughter and got myself a saveloy and chips on the way back :-D

If there was a problem with the tables they would have been recalled but the chances of it getting to the consumer with such a major problem is very rare.

I really think you'll struggle to get a refund / credit note as Focus will take the same stance as me so be prepared to be accused of breaking it yourself or letting your three year old do it.

Do you have the product number as i'll do a bit of research for you to find out other peoples reviews of the table.

Ignore the last bit i've just seen the SKU

:? would it be fair to say the actual accident happened like this-

1 you rushed home excited about your new purchase driving at fast speeds with the glass table unsecured in the car .
2 after grinding to a halt at your home leaving skid marks on the road, you then dragged the table and chair set out of the car leaving no regard to the amount of knocks it was taking as you hurridly went into your garden.
3 you then assembled the table using the fixings provided, but because you didnt want to waste time you tightened them up using your fingers and disregarded the included tools.
4 you then proceeded to erect the chairs and parasol and slotted the said parasol into the hole in the table, you commented on how wobbly the table felt,so you slotted a copy of ok magazine under its legs to stop the wobble.
5 you then left the table and returned with a large glass jug of lemonade and a plate of sandwiches and spent an hour drinking and eating in the sunshine.
6 at precisely 7pm your friend arrived and asked you for the latest copy of ok magazine to read
7 you rushed to the garden and pulled it out from the table leg, resulting in the table falling over and a large glass jug following it and causing it to smash!
8 I REST MY CASE YOUR HONOUR!
