Will I be able to go back on JSA if....

Been on Job Seekers Allowence for 2 months, and on Tuesday I started a job that an agency got me. They told me it was an admin job, but when on my first day I was packing and unpacking boxses and moving them back and forth all day long. I asked someone who was in charge if this was what I would be doing for my time there, and she told me that I'd probably be doing more warehouse type work. The next day, I decided I might aswell leave as this was not what the agency had told me the job would be, and I was struggling with the practical side of the role. So again I am unemployed, but have not been back to the Job Centre yet. Will they let me go back on JSA if I myself voluntary left the job? A girl from the agency started with me on the same day and she left after 4 hours there, and they telephoned on Friday to appologise for their 'cock-up' and are going to be looking for warehouse workers instead.

Do you have a medical reason why you can't pack boxes? Just wondered if you had a bad back or something like that?
#2
if you explain they might be able to sort it out for you, as it wasnt a job as such... :)

Depends on who deals with claim, as they can be assholes.

Last year I signed on but they lost my claim so after a month still no money so I contacted them and they said I had to reclaim and lose the months money and so I appealed and they said there was no grounds for appeal and it was my fault

Dunno but personally, I'd rather shift a few boxes & do a bit of packing rather than be on JSA anyway - especially if I'd already been on it for 2 months.

You could then always look for something more suitable whilst earning a bit of cash at the same time.

Thats why you send claim forms by special delivery or if you hand them in they give you a reciept.
Call the benefits enquiry line it should be on your claim details letters 1st thing monday. I know there is a cut off to renewing a claim but not sure how long it is you may have to start a new claim. As the agency have admitted to the mistake there should be no problem.

It was more silliness as all that happened was I phoned up which they put on file, got forms and they forgot to sign me in for a new claim interview though put on system I handed in the claim forms and they forgot to process them then claimed I didnt hand it in.

Theres some special thing they do - you can try a job for 2 weeks and if you dont like it you can go back on jsa no questions asked

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Agree 100%
No offence but a job is a job when you don't have 1, so where's the problem?

lol i was just waiting for more replies.

I have no back problems, I'm just not strong at all, and was constantly struggling and requesting help with the carrying, so they probably would have sacked me anywhoo.

Having never claiming benefits I suppose I am lucky, however any job must pay more than JSA on it's own.........

Benefit culture makes me sick!!!!

That's fine. I am not getting at you personally but just know I would do ANYTHING (legal!!) rather than sign on...........

Why because claiming benefits makes someone a bad person, as thats the way it comes accross in your wording.

If packing is not on the list of jobs that you have on your job seekers agreement you might not have a problem??? Best to ring the claim number a query it without giving any of your details see what they say.
I know when I was out of work for a few weeks last year I got a weeks work in between signing and they told me its usually a week or so before they close a claim so you can fast track by going into the job centre rather than having to phone to make a claim and then have appointment etc Worth a try you have nothing to lose. Good luck

O dear. Did not mean that at all. Claiming benefits is fine if you need them. But I don't consider I do. I am fit and able to work so I do.

Not everyone is so fortunate I know, but what I find irritating is SOME people prefer to claim handouts rather then do an honest days work. Even if it is packing boxes all day................

I laugh at your quote saying you would do anything rather than sign, as I look at your user name Bankofmumndad so you would thather them work to keep you lol lol lol

Lol, very perceptive!! Glad you are taking this lightheartedly.

I am off to watch the footie....... Good luck in your search for work by the way, hope you find something to suit (op I mean) X

i can see this turning into one of those threads......

i have been on both sides of this arguement, i was on benefit for 3 years after my ex left me, tho i had 3 kids to look after i still got stick for being on 'benefits' but it was not practical or good for my kids for me to work.

i now work, i dont enjoy my job, its not my dream position but i have responsibilities and i have the added satisfaction of earning my own money

if theres no reason why you cannot physically do the job i dont see why you shouldnt do it till a better one comes along, better than being on benefit

Its not you im getting at dont worry but its that many people make assumptions, I was unemployed for a prolonged period, I was applying for jobs but to be fair I wasnt applying for every job I saw.

I dont mind working in a shop or supermarket, call centre, factory etc but I dont think working cleaning poo out of peoples toilets would be suitable as id probably leave after a few days as I couldnt handle the mess and smell so I didnt apply for them

And constantly I see people say if they lost their job they would take any job but would they so many people I know who claim that once in the situation stay on benefits the longest as they think they are entitled to a certain income per week.

Anyway I can see why the OP quit, its not like they thought they would do lifting then quit as they didnt like it, they started thinking it was admin and wasnt the job they thought therefore its not the same

Rather than judge you like some ppl have on whether you have done the right thing...the point is its been done.

Honestly is aways the best policy and benefits agency have ways and means of checkin all the facts out. I would get myself down there and explain everythin the worse that they can do is suspend your payment for a few weeks.

Hopefully this is a lesson learned

Well thanks for the replies! As stated we were given a job that was totally unlike the one we were told we were going to be getting, so I'll be down the Job Centre tomorrow morning explaning everything. Luckily I have had 2 job interviews over the weekend so hopefully I won't b on benefits for long, or if I get a call soon I won't need to re-apply :) Thanks.
