12.5874126 mph.

80 yds divided by 13 seconds equals yards per sec.

x 60 = yards per min

x 60 = yards per hour about 22000

divided by 1760 yards in a mile.
#4
you can't be done for speeding at 12mph.
#5
Scrumpypaul is correct 12.58741258
#6
Was you outside a school in a 5mph zone or something?
#7
Do you not think you were speeding?
#8
no no no

accused of doing 98mph

here is what i have worked out so far (im waiting for the video to upload)

At this time my vehicle is in view to the rear of a wagon travelling on the A64 Malton bypass. my vehicle is travelling in the outside lane coming up to overtake the wagon.

To allow for any under estimation of distance i have assumed my vehicle to be approximately 80 yards behind the front end of the wagon. I do belive the distance to be between 30 and 40 yards.

Viewing the video and referring to the clock shown from the official time iam first viewed at 09:37:30. I then proceed to overtake the wagon and pass the front of the wagon at 09:37:43. This is a time difference of 13 seconds.

Int he video there is a small van travelling in fron of the wagon. The speed limit for this van is 60 mph on that dual carriagway. Since 2002 all wagons have restricted engines that do not allow them to travel above 56mph on any road.

We must presume that these vehicles were travelling within the speed limit. otherwise. if the offcer operating the laser system had thought not he would have checked their speed

my calculations:

40 yards in 13 seconds at 6 mph = 1 mile takes 600 seconds

40 yards = 1/44th of a mile

Therefore divide 600 seconds by 44 gives a time of 13.6 seconds to travel the distance.

if the wagon is travelling at 56mph one must add the 6 mph of speed, that will give my vehicle travelling at a speed of 62 mph

if the wagon is travelling at 56 mph between my vehicle and the front end of the wagon is 80 yards then one must double 6mph to 12mph and add this to the speed of the wagon.
This will give a calculated speed of 68mph

thus not doing 98 mph

You can for driving too slow and causing a hazard if you did it for examply on the M1. I presume they mean 800yds?

It it's 800 yards he must've been doing about a ton and twenty five!

if i can upload the [email protected] video then you can see im not even 80 yards away, if i was then i would be doing 68mph
banned#14
me thinks you would know the difference between 60 odd and 90 odd
#15
you wouldn't have travelled 40 or 80 yards though, unless the wagon etc are stationary. if you have overtaken them whilst they are driving at around 60mph, the actual distance covered is clearly far far more.
#16
Well 98mph is 28mph over the max UK speed limit, even if the camera was out of calibration I very much doubt it will be anywhere near 28mph out

As for the lorry not all of them have the restrictors on them especially a lot of the foreign ones so there is nothing saying they also wasn't speeding but seeing as you was going faster the operator of the speed gun targeted you
#17
I thought the gun is meant to be held steady?

Best of luck convincing the magistrates. Ive never seen anyone get off using this method before though. If you are going to contest it, as you can, you may end up getting a bigger fine and more points.
If I am being honest with you, there are a lot of assumptions in your defence. As you were doing 25mph over the maximum speed I imagine you have been reported to court anyway. What method did the officers use? If it was laser or Vascar you have had it. If it was two officers pacing you, then yu would need to know then the police speedometer was last calibrated etc.
Let us know how you get on

:w00t: just watched your video you were hammering in the rain take your points and fine, and give over

What he said

Are you just getting done for speeding?

Your lucky your not getting done for driving without care or whatever they call it, you could just as easily be getting done for causing death by dangerous driving if there was an accident

You wont find any sympathy here

you are guilty as charged, your maths defence is flawed too, but the video clearly shows you deserve a ban driving at those speeds and in those conditions.
ps is that a HSE TD6?
banned#28
can I give you some advice, swallow the points and fine, as if you pop to court ( seeing your "evidence" )you are up the creek without a paddle, and I can guarantee your points and fine will be alot more .. been there, seen the evidence, given the evidence, and seen the unhappy customer with a massive fine, court costs, extra points ..
#29
just seen the video, you are stuffed. Please fight it in court though, its people like you that need banning. If the court see this are you selling your car?
#30
Know what's really weird? This Saturday is the 6th.....spooky.
#31
SRT 6...how much did that cost you! lol. good luck to you sir. It did look like you where going a bit over 70 mph :)

I was about to ask when court was as just noticed the date of 14/01/08 and thought it would have been a bit late to pay the fine by now. Good luck anyway!!!!! :)

is the gun not being held pretty steady tho when it is being pointed at your car?...

What your forgetting is the speed reading from the gun is laser i.e. light, therefore the reading is instantanious as far as your concerned, therefore unless you can prove that the operator was focussing on your bumper or somewhere that could cause a reflection that might fool the laser gun into giving a false reading, your stuffed.

Your only other hope IF you want to contest this, is ask for a copy of the officers daybook showing the speed calibration done either before or after his/her shift that day, if it was not calibrated on the day then you could contest it
also ask for a copy of the officers certification to prove he was certified to use the speed equipment
