Bought a usb dongle for my pc since my pci card fried after a psu failure, the dongle didnt work as it wasnt compatable with 64 bit OS or at least the version I am using i.e its like a version 3 and version 2 works as well as 4,5,6 but not this one!

I tested it on laptop and it works on that, so I just put a new piece of sellotape back on plastic sheet that came with the dongle. and it all looks brand new just without the wrapper for the box.

depends, they can technically say no, but sometimes they dont bother with the worry
My mother bought a couple of cd's from tesco, listened to them, didnt like and they refunded in full
othertimes you can get hassle for the best of reasons

I am hoping since I did a customer marketing thing there last month they will remember me since the manager was in the room during the questionaire and when I go in she smiles and says hello.

Why not just tell them that it doesn't work on your PC?

I was thinking that but then they would lose out and they may just say they can exchange it.

the danger of saying it doesnt work is that they only offer to exchange it

best route is the dumb route, bribe an old lady to return it!

No, you don't say it doesn't work, you say it doesn't work with/on your PC.

Was it listed on the packaging as being compatible with your OS?

It says "supports Windows 2000, XP and Vista and yet it wont work on Vista 64!

If it were me, I'd just tell the truth and say "I bought this but it doesn't work on my computer. Look - on the back it says it works with 'Vista', but it didn't work on my Vista PC. Could I please return it for a refund?" - or something to that affect.
Chances are they're not going to be an IT whiz and say "Oh, well, it doesn't say it's compatible with Vista 64bit does it?! No refund for you - you should have known better mwahahaa"

I think the key point is not that it doesnt say Vista 64, and more on the fact it doesnt state 32 bit only. Tell them its not compatible with your system, when according to the pack it is.
