Win 7 Network Printer

Having trouble connecting to my printer over the network, both machines are Windows 7, managed to find the printer using my laptop but when it tries to connect it says it can't find drivers, so I downloaded the drivers, however it's looking for a .inf file and I have a .exe file

Any ideas?

Printer is a Canon MP250, thanks

In most cases you have to install the software and press skip when it prompts you connect the printer. Once that is done click add printer in the devices and printers section and let it find it the networked printer. Once it found the printer it will give you a list of available drivers and having installed the software earlier the printer should now be listed in the Canon section.

Are you using Windows printer sharing or is it connected directly to your Internet router?

It's connected to my PC, then trying to access it though the home group.

The laptop finds it, so i know it's not a firewall issue, It tries to find the drivers and can't so gives the option of finding the .inf file, or cancelling and talking to my network administrator (which doesn't help as it's me!)

What you are saying it doesn't even offer you to pick a driver from the list of pre-installed ones, but moves straight to the window asking you to browse for the driver files?

Try this...

Install 7-Zip, right-click mp250swin103ea24.exe, choose 7zip from the pop-up menu and extract the contents of the file.

Now try adding the printer again and this time browse the driver folder that was just created when you extracted the mp250swin103ea24.exe file.

the exe should have installed the printer drivers

when it asks for the inf file then navigate to the folder the exe installed it into

Nope, running the installation file doesn't give any .inf file.

Not sure what the problem is, my old printer just worked :(

Give me a min, I will zip-up the folder you need on it's own and upload it.

Thanks

Here you go, just the driver folder from the mp250swin103ea24.exe file.

Right-click the downloaded file in windows and click and extract using the in-built Windows utility. You should have a whole bunch of INF, CAB and DLL files. Point the Add printer wizard to it and it should complete the installation.
