Win a dream house worth £500,000 for only £20 ticket?

Check out this site:- http://www.dreamhomecompetition.co.uk
They are offering for a £20 ticket you the chance to win a dreamhouse worth £500,000, however it all seems a bit of a con to me, as the min number of tickets they will sell is 30000 which is a nice tidy £600,000 raised for them for a house worth £500,000 and the max number of tickets they will sell is 42000 which is a nice tidy sum of £840,000 for them.

They also mention setup and running costs which will be taken out of the money raised from sale of the tickets.

Seems a win/win for the builder offering the competition and also just noticed the competition was due to end in May however it has been extended until the 20th June, obviously not sold the min amount of tickets by the sound of it them.

What are your thoughts on this? seems a bit of a scheme for the builder to make a lot of money to me, if it was sensibly done tickets would be cheaper and they wouldn't make a nice tidy profit from this instead enough maybe to cover costs and sale etc.

Would love your thoughts on it to.

Why would anyone run a lottery and 'not make a tidy profit' as you quote.

Of course it's a win/win for the builder why else would he do it?

Good on them I say.

But it clearly states this is NOT a lottery on the site

Just seems like envy at the thought of someone coming up with an idea that you wish you'd thought of, as far as I can tell. How's it a con? Because someone's going to make some money?

yeah they have made it a "competition" to get round the lottery license they would need otherwise-tho it could still be deemed as one same hoo haa over the tv comps they are a lottery because nobody is ever likely to get the answers wrong!!

I'll save my 20squids and buy myself a nice drink tonight

Edit: also wouldnt the "lucky" winner have to pay tax on their new found gain??

No, because it's a win, rather than an earning.

Very true, one of the few times that people have ever managed to get enough publicity to sell enough tickets was the devon case. Look up what happened even when they managed to sell all the tickets.

One of these going on where I live, think they've sold something like 60 tickets out of 40,000 at the last look!
