Hi Guys.
Ok so if i have a laptop, on vista ultimate that is allowed the free* win 7 upgrade (woohoo)
And if i get the disc and decide i want to use the disc to upgrade my home PC (not allowed the free upgrade and is home built running vista home) INSTEAD of the laptop!
Can i do this?
i.e Vista home > win7 ultimate on a non-dell machine?

Im not sure if the upgrade asks for you old (vista) key? if it does...does it matter if the old key isnt *ultimate* ??
Im pretty sure it doesnt matter if the machine is a dell or not? as its should be an OEM windows disc?
thanks!

As long as you have a compatible machine and you only have it running on one pc I can't see there'd be a problem.

Is this based on experience?
It seems highly unlikely that it will be ok, it's a different version (Vista home) AND a different machine (probably not a Dell)
It might work as M$ are desperate to get anyone to use Windows 7

Well...after speaking to dell (regarding postage etc...) they told me its not a 'Dell' thing its a M$ thing.
So i cant see microsoft making specific discs for asus, HP, Dell, etc... would end up being expensive!
Easier and cheaper to just let dell do the checking of who is allowed an upgrade and who isnt!
Dell's site says that if you have vista ultimate, you can then install 7 ultimate etc... but how does windows7 know what you where running when it states you need to upgrade by doing a fresh install??
Also what happens to thos who downgraded to xp from vista but want 7 ultimate?
I guess im not going to get exact answers til the disc arrives eh! lol
Thanks
