Windows Media Centre and Xbox 360

Can't get the xbox 360 to see my other hard drive with all my videos on, I can see them on my PC's Windows Media Centre. I've got the drive on Shared, and has permissions for everyone to read.

Running Vista Ultimate, my original Xbox media centre can see the drive fine so that makes me think it's something I haven't set right on the xbox 360.

Have you tried opening windows media player and allowing your 360 device to use the sharing and also specifying the drives to be shared?

Apparently that stops the Windows Media Centre from working, it can only do one share at a time or something trying something out now...

Windows Media Centre is built into Vista, but it's the same as Nero Home or Cyberlink Media Centre software

I always had problems getting my xbox to see my other pcs even with Vista. I downloaded TVersity it is brillant and plays almost any video file as well as all music. Best of all it's free http://tversity.com/

have you tried going into windows media player > library > add to library and selecting all drives and folders that you wish to be able to see on the xbox. This is what i do. then all you need to do is go to the dashboard > media and select what your wanting. Hope this helps

the stuff that you dont want you can delete and then select for it to never be added to your library again once deleted. This is by far the easiest way to stream media to your xbox and rerquires no cpu intensive programs. Just let me know if you have any more problems. I had a few issues when setting it up but they were easily sorted.

do you have any problems accessing videos when they are on your other drive

I can watch the videos (about 50% of them) on my 360 now but not in the windows media centre on the 360. Though they are on my Windows Media Centre on my PC....any clues to that? When searching for shared folders on my 360 Media Centre it can't find any.

btw bit hit and miss with the videos seems odd encoding, size of videos causes them not to work. Though they all work on my old Xbox Media Centre, funny how some amateur programmers can make them work but not Microsoft employees, go figure.

what type of videos are you watching, file type and where you getting them

Ones of made using Pinnacle Studio or downloaded from 4onDemand file type is avi encoded in mpeg format, a lot of the heavily compressed mpeg videos of music videos don't work either. Most work from 4onDemand it's just ones i've encoded/edited funny from home videos. Funnily enough all the illegitimate ones work fine :whistling:

I've now got all my videos from my PC on the Windows Media Centre on my 360 now using this link http://www.shasam.net/archives/32/ worked a treat.

media center will only play wmv files not avi or mpg4. To play these files try the following

follow this guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909536 to see your xbox360 on your pc

And then follow this guide http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/stream_video_xbox_360_tversity.cfm

If your xbox360 stops seeing your PC but your PC can see your xbox360 check out this link http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-360/664718-xbox-360-wont-find-pc-arghhh.html and delete the contents of the DRM folder
