Hey People

Have recently bought a Macbook Pro, I like the OS however have been using Windows for a very long time thus want to install it on the Macbook.

Thought I would get some advice as you are a helpful bunch :)

Also can I use my Windows serial number twice e.g use it on the mac as well as the desktop?

Cheers

2 options either dual boot using boot camp

Or

Use a virtual machine such as vmware fusion or parallels

The latter if you are only going to use it every now and then

No idea about the serial number thing though.

Thanks mate!
I will be using it regularly so think Parallels would be the best? Is this better than wmware?

Thought Dual boot would be easier just click and choose?

Cheers

use bootcamp its easy and you can choose which os you want to start next time it boots.

you "can" use the serial but you're not supposed to

Using boot camp would be better if using it regularly like boothy said. I think you will have to purchase a new copy of windows as well.

I use VMware. Its excellent. Used parallels before and liked it, but found VMWare a little better.

I have Windows 7 as a bootcamp setup, but can also run it through VMWare. Also have XP and Linux and all work fantastic - at the same time (never had a reason to do this though - thats just crazy but just to test it ;-)!)

Thanks dcx had a look at that before.

You've always been helpful before dude so was surprised at your comment :p

Thanks anyway!

Ajay, I guess if you can then why not lol! But I will try to get Windows 7 one first! lol

Could I ask why you found VMWare better than bootload?

Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro and also used windows. I first used this via bootcamp but found my laptop ran really hot and also would freeze sometimes(Not good when your halfway through a game of poker!). I looked into this and found allot of people with the same problem, not sure if this has been fixed yet or not!
I am now using Parallels and find that fine, havent tried VM though.

Cheers

incorrect, windows activation will only let the machine activate on one hardware setup.

If you faff about with activation bypass (which isnt recommended and later on will flag up illegal use of windows and then "possibly" void the licence on your desktop computer) you can get it to work but not recommended

VMWare just allows you to use windows, and mac together. Where as bootcamp allows you to boot from start up (pressing alt key on hearing the mac 'dong') which allows you to boot directly in to windows.

Why did you buy a massively overpriced Mac just to put windows on, you paid double the price for half the specs.

Like I said before, not sure why my comment was removed?

Want to install Windows until I get used to Mac.

Ignore D, he gets cranky when you mention apple.

Boot camp is the easiest in my opinion, but you do have to reboot if you want to switch systems.

You can as far as I am aware use your existing serial key for windows but you would need to get M$ to deactivate the first install. (dont know how easy that is though but I believe it is possible)

I personally have 3 iPods and will put money on you not have been using and owning them for over 6 years. Nice try though.

Who Me?

LoL, I have been using Apple since 1990 Originally had the SE30, Classic, IIsi, Quadra 840av a rake of LCIIIs, G3 BW, G4 Quicksilver, E-Mac, iBook G3, Ibook G4 and currently have a Macbook Pro 2010.

Have even acquired over the years the dodgy forerunner to the iPad the Newton (god that was naff) and the Quick Take Camera (equally as bad)

Had the original FW Only iPod, then A 3rd Gen, The U2 4th Gen, a Mini, 3 Nanos and a New 64GB 4th Gen iPod Touch.

And before you spout I am a fanboi I cant even begin to list my PC equivalents over the years because I have always used both and like the flexibility of building my own machines, not to say I haven't overclocked by resoldering many a jumper on older Macs.

So yeah I know my way around the Apple line up for about 2 decades
