Windows Password- what's the pop up recovery thingie?

My 'favourites' have been deleted. They're not hiding, as i've tried going into the folder to see if they're still there.. i want them back!

I've messed up my pc and was trying to restore it to a previous date. To do this, windows asks for my password- have tried, admin, admin1, passord, left it blank etc- but to no avail. A few years ago sommat embedded itself in the pc (not literally) some kinda trojan i think, and whatever it was wouldn't let me bring up my task manager (all greyed out) im sure that thingie has changed my password too. pretty certain the p/word was admin.

There was a thread on here gawd know when where someone had kindly mentioned a program (don't install it- it was just readily accessible) which could be used to recover lost/forgotten passwords--- you typed in sommat on the pc, and up came a 'pop up' with the password in it. tried searching, but the search engine on here leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyone recall what it was- the program?

Unless anyone has bright ideas as to how i can recover my faves w/out needing the windows password. many thanks in advance

You can use that to change the password of other accounts, but not the main account if you're on it and don't know the password. You can download a boot disk to reset the password though. Have you tried leaving it blank?

yep, left it blank- no joy. will look into downloading a boot disk, ta.
