i bought my current laptop from a friend in july.its currently running windows vista ultimate on my lappy...and turns out im SUPPOSED to have vista home premium on it.have the product key on the bottom etc and its all legit...
wouldnt bother changing it except i keep getting pesky warning messages from microsoft and im afraid my computer will explode.
am currently downloading the vista premium but im sure ive seen on here that all sony vaios have the original operating systems installed somewhere on them permantly....did i imagine this?am currently backing all my shize up so when this download FINALLY completes ill be able to do a fresh install with my valid product key..
laptop is a sony vaio fz21s btw
just wondering if this is the right thing to do or is there a quicker way?
would appreciate any help/advice...
Cheers,
Shane

You could use a key changer, then activate, only thing is, it's ultimate on and not premium. Don't think there is a quicker way.

If it dont borrow/download an oem disc the right for your lappy then do a fresh install using your own key from the bottom

cant seem to find it:?google is also not my friend....

dont know anyone to borrow disc from although i do have a copy of the drivers just not of windows which is y im downloading it...gonna take hours tho and then ive to burn to dvd and wipe and install apparently....
just wondering if theres a quicker easier way...like just getting my lappy to revert to factory settings with the original windows installed....that would be nice:thumbsup:probably unrealistic tho:x

With someone putting the incorrect windows on there i dont think the recovery partion will still be there, if it is look in program files and under Sony/vaio system recovery.

If not then a fresh install it will have to, Use torrents to get an oem windows but if you not used to this get someone who does know how

yup-no recovery partition:x
as i said have the home premium edition dl-ing now from torrents..
just bugs me that its gonna take ages and im gonna lose/have to backup/have to reinstall all my stuff...
dont even really see the point in installing ultimate when home premium seems to do most of the same stuff:?

thanks for the help

Well Ultimate sounds better - you may think I'm joking but I've seen that justification for installing XP Pro rather than Home and those people weren't joking. There are benefits of course but for many people Home premium is fine.

I'm not sure if you can install a retail Vista disc with an OEM key, if you can download an OEM version (such as a Dell one even though you don't have a Dell) I'd go for that otherwise see how you get on,

if you f10 on boot up you should be able to access the recovery system on the vaio which will then allow u to bring it back to factory settings. shouldnt need any disks for this

dude - i have absolutely no idea what has happened...and my mate who is reasonably good at computers has no idea - but whatever it is youve seemed to solve everything.
i did the f10 at startup and it came up with a dos-type screen with some sort of error and the only thing i could do was press enter..which i did and windows started up as normal.
now it.
in the system panel its saying windows is activated and its allowing me to change product key and has NO error messages...
really appreciate that even if i have NO idea what has happened:?:whistling::thumbsup:
