Hi,

I was just wondering if it is worth Upgrading to Vista. The Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade Student Edition is only £50 from Ebuyer and as I already own a legit copy of XP it should upgrade ok. My girlfriend is the student so I'd be able to register it with her student details but I was wondering if its worth it - Is Vista Stable? Should i just stick with XP? For £50 it seems like a good deal.

I upgraded last night as my XP machine was KO'd - decided to whack in the Vista upgrade CD & do a full install (deleting everything off the PC).

Working perfect now (took 15 mins to boot up earlier !!) - only problem is drivers !!

Took me over an hour to find a driver for my USB wireless hub (and even that wasn't an official one)

What are the specs of your PC?

If it is anything less than:

Dual Core: 1.7ghz
1024mb Ram
256mb GFX Card

Then I wouldnt bother.

In fact unless you are an avid gamer who is going to rely on DX10 or have some other need which means you have to get vista now, then I would wait until after Service Pack 1 is released in Vista.

After SP1 they will fix a lot the niggly little bugs and there will be am uch wider range of drivers available.

Saying that from what I have seen of Vista it is stable, looks pretty and is very security conscious which is great news.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I'll be sticking with xp as long as I can.

Been trying to use vista home on a laptop with 1gb of ram and its like watching paint dry!

Stick with XP for the time being, Vista is very slow on some machines.

My Computer spec is:

3Ghz Pentium 4
1Gb RAM
128mb Geforce Ultra 5700

Alot of people have said only get it after the Service Pack has been released.

Ive been going back n forth with vista. But for some reason I just dont like it. Ive only ever tried the 64 bit version, so cant comment on the 32 bit, but I guess its the same. I'll be sticking to XP for now, and i'll try it again in a few months or so.

To be honest then, unless there is a reason for you to want to have vista, I would stay with XP.

Vista will give you nothing new except new headaches :)

I am running Vista Premium on my laptop. I like it, it's just different is all.
Aero glass is nice, just a pity it doesn't work maximised.
