Windows Vista Crash Dump / Restart?

Can anyone help with this situation?

Both yesterday, and just now, our laptop had just given the blue screen of death / crash dump screen, but the restarted back into Windows with no other problems

Does anyone know what can cause this.

The laptop has been in for repair of the screen (flickering screen) 4 times in 6 months and is still not totally repaired

Any advice?

I had an toshiba years ago with vista and i upgraded the memory cos it used to have a blue screen issue. it was fine after that

There should be an error code on the blue screen or in event viewer.

ill try and get it next time it happends... What will that acheive?

Could be a lot of things but overheating is usually the first thing to look at - also worth running memtest-x86 for a while to see if memory errors are occuring.
#6
Do you think this could be connected to the flickering screen issue we have?
#7
The error code will give a good idea about the cause. A quick google of the code should give some sort of solution :)

a seen that dontasciime, just wondered if anyone had any experience of using TMM. apprarently it reduces flickering but when i try on open Task Manager, it states corrupt or damaged files
#11
it's enabled at default
#12
yea i though it was, but when I try and it from Task Scheduler, I get errors. its like Vista is corrupt

What PC/hardware or laptop is this ? if it's a dell studio 15 or could be any other dell with 1366x768 LCD it's a known issue with them, a very low level flickering that only a new non LGD7001 screen will fix

Download BlueScreenView, it reads all your dump files when the blue screens occur, it will show you the error codes which might help.
#18
Other things you can do is download memtest86, stick it on a cd or usb stick and it will test your memory for any faults.
Run command prompt as admin and type sfc /scannow, it will check for any corrupted windows files.
Run scan disk.
