My iPhone will sync with iTunes but it's suddendly stopped being recognised as a camera & so I can't view the files from within "my computer" whenever I used to plug it in it came up with a popup box asking about photo transfer, now it's stopped doing that & always says New Hardware Found

While trying to reinstall the drivers it say "Access denied" I'm presuming it's something to do with Vista, I only have one login which is obviously the administrator. Anyone know why it would say Access denied when trying to install drivers?

UPDATE - looks like it's Vista not iTunes as I have tried to plug in a card reader today, not used before on this pc & it is giving the same message - Access is Denied, also tried to load another USB device not previously used & that's the same as well. Can anyone help me with this please

It's not showing in My Computer at all

In device manager it shows iPhone with an exclamation mark - which is the camera drivers
& Apple Mobile Device USB Driver something device which is fine - that's the one that syncs it with iTunes

However whenever I try & reinstall the drivers for the iPhone it is saying "access denied" & I don't understand why

Thats very weird, I would connect it, then go into the device manager. Then right click and uninstall the device, remove it and reboot then try again.

Failiing that the driver is corrupt in itunes, reinstall im afraid. But remember to de authorise your computer and back up your purchases first!

I have tried uninstalling from device manager but I didn't reboot I just plugged it straight back in so I will give that a try thanks.

Tried uninstalling then reboot & plugged it back in & still no joy - still says Access is Denied :x

Think I might have to just live with it & see if the next update fixes it, don't really want to start uninstalling everything as it still syncs with iTunes perfectly fine & I can guarantee if start messing with it any more then more things are likely to go wrong than be fixed!

Think it all started after I updated to 3.1.2 on Thursday, I have tried doing a system restore but that has failed as well

Hmm that is a weird one I must admit. Perhaps going onto everything icafe forums may help you? Post on there.

If not, book an appointment with a genius in an apple store if you have one nearby.

you could try turning UAC off, installing drivers and then switching UAC back on

http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

I assume you are the only user under USER ACCOUNT CONTROL and an Administrator

Just tried doing that, access is still denied :x & yes I am the only user/administrator on the pc, anything else I can try?

did you uninstall both devices (iPhone & Apple Mobile Device USB Drive) before re-booting and then re-inserting usb?

No but I daren't uninstall the Apple Mobile Device USB Drive just in case it won't let me reinstall it cause then I wouldn't be able to sync my iPhone with iTunes.

I'm thinking virus now as it won't let me install/reinstall drivers for anything it's not just my iPhone, the card reader won't install either, just plugged that into the old laptop and it just loaded the drivers straight away.

I'm doing an Online Panda scan, about 30% through & I've got 10 infected & 2 suspicious although they could just be cookies as i've had it come up with things like that before. I'm running Avira as standard & Comodo Firewall, if it's not a virus then I really don't know what else to do :?

Well as I suspected just cookies so no virus picked up with avira or panda, but that doesn't help me though!

yes I have but it was quicker for me to take a pic & upload straight from my phone to photobucket as I had other things on the screen that I would have had to edit out of a screen print :p

Got it sorted, went to a Vista tech support forum, the culprit....... COMODO firewall :w00t:

Uninstalled COMODO this morning & restarted computer plugged my iPhone in & a hey presto it loaded the drivers straight away, then tried the card reader & same, drivers loaded fine.

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated
