i don't think you can do it on a G4 without using 3rd party software to emulate xp. the newer macs use intel chips and its dead easy to do on them. you simply create a driver disk when you run bootcamp. you then install xp as normal and simply choose which OS to boot with

It will not work on the G4 as this is a PowerPC based Apple, not Intel X86 based as with the newer models. The only solution is emulation which does not work particularly well when compared to running the operating system natively.

It's easy to do on the new intel macs as all you need is either Boot Camp or Parellels Desktop and it is very simple - just follow the on screen instructions.

The only way (as far as I know) to do it on a G4 is to use Virtual PC (which you have to buy) and then install the OS onto Virtual PC. Please be aware if you are going to spend money on this that a G4 will not run Windows very fast - even with a decent amount of RAM - you would actually be better off buying a cheap PC from Dell outlet or Big Pockets - and they would run much faster.

I know it isn't that green, but I used to run Virtual PC and it was slow on my G4

I thought the whole point of a Mac was the os.
Why have a Mac with Windows?

Dual booting gives the flexibility of both operating systems, regardless of how good or bad OS X is there is still plenty of software which will only run under Windows.

Understood, I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu.
But wouldn't pay way over the odds for a system with OSX and then put Windows on it.:?

So what would you do then if you want to primarily use OS X but occasionally need a Windows operating system? Makes perfect sense to me especially as you can't really do it the other way round.

I would buy/build a dedicated Windows machine........they cost next to nothing these days.

I've no idea why you are so against dual booting but most people are happy to simply have the second OS on the same machine than buy a second one entirely which is a lot less convenient, more expensive and takes up a lot more room.
