Hello

Do you mean 54mbps for the wireless adapto? If so then this is what I had and had to go out and buy a faster one, somethig like the NETGEAR WG111T WIRELESS 108MBPS USB ADAPTER available from PC World.

I'd still suggest a 108mbps router would be a lot better especially if you are wanting to play games online.

I'd recommend the Zoom X6 Available at Amazon.

As the router is faster than your internet connection, it would be pointless getting a faster one unless you plan on sharing lots of files with other computers in your house...

54mbps is fine for online gaming, unless of course you have a connection better than 54mb (which you wont have).

If your conection keeps dropping then it's more than likley either wireless interference, shagged router or a line fault.

Are you on ADSL virgin media or CABLE??
This makes a difference..

You need to do ping tests, this is why your disconnecting,
To test your ping you go to
Start run type cmd in the box then click ok
then in black box type ping ( then the game server your trying to play on)

If its high then you need to ring virgin to see if there is any issues in your area.
You need low pings to do online gaming.

i'm on cable, my laptops fast, well i think it is., i'm trying to play online on my nintendo wii sometime i can play but most of the time i'll get disconnected.

Check to if its the ADSL line disconnecting or your wireless link first.

Do you have any firewall options enabled or default, enter your Wii on the DMZ for tesing to be sure or leave it on the DMZ if you can.

i've got a d-link 802.11g/2.4ghz 54mbp wireless router. i can use the internet on my wii but when i comes to play online it disconnects me. but i've played online a few time. as i.ve managed to get on and play. i thought it was the router. i looked at pc worlds website and the 54mbp routers dont say anything about playing online but the bigger ones do.

54mbps routers are perfectly fine for online gaming, 104mbps routers are not really required as your broadband connection will be nowhere near even 20mbps. The only advantage of the higher speed router is if you are transferring large amounts of data around your home network.

Your problem is not your wireless router speed - period.

what would you say thats wrong. my laptops works fine. i can download old games on my wii on the internet so its all set up right. but i can't play on line all the time. i've been in to some forums and they say they have no problems so cant be that nintendo wii online is in its early stages.

I would suggest possibly contacting VM to see if they can see a fault between your house and their servers.

Could be a number of things, if you say your able to download VC games onto your wii and your internet works fine then I would assume that your connection itself works OK.

It could well be your NAT in you modem settings, if set to strict then it will almost certainly disconnect you when encountering any other gamers online - I know this is definetley the case on Xbox Live and PSN so I would assume that Wii online works in a similar way. You need to access your modem settings and set your NAT to off or low and try your Wii again.

Let us know how you get on.

Edit:- Actually the correct setting should be 'open'
