Wisdom tooth being taken out

Just been told by dentist that my wisdom tooth needs to be taken out as its compacted or something, no room at the inn anyway.

I'm quite nervous, having ti done at the dentist under local anesthetic. Anyone had this done before? How bad is it?

Yes I have, and don't be put off by all the scaremongers!

It's not as bad as some would make you think.
The fact that it is Impacted isn't neccessarily a bad thing - if its sticking out a little bit - then they will cut around it and take it out....

I had 4 done!

OUCH!

But not as bad as others may make out.

I was glad in the end!

Spoke to a woman at work and she says her dentist had to put his knee on her chest and a fist in her month (sounds fun and kinda kinky!!). Hope mine is really loose!

This is true, mine was fine too

I hate dentists so was a bit scared. He just kept injecting me and poking around in there until I was completely numb. There was no pain at all, even afterwards. The only bad thing was that I bled like anything for hours afterwards!

Honestly, don't worry too much, it sounds a lot worse than it actually is!

dentist gave me some relaxant like valium and all i can remember is sitiing in the waiting room trying to get my tongue stud back in dribbling everywhere took me ages lol you'll be fine its not as bad as people make out

i think they are having a jolly with you unless you have another problem but they don't break your jaw to have wisdom teeth out
#16
I just keep picturing him pulling and twisting it until it comes loose, it must take forever cos that tooth is solid, how scary is it going to be to see my tooth in his hand, wonder if I can take it home??? Muchos money from the tooth fairy surely, not been visited since I was a kid!

He did an xray of my tooth, nearly puked he had to shove the thing so far back, and showed me it aferwards, the roots aren't as long as my other teeth, by about 5-6 mm, so maybe I'm getting myself worked up about nothing, I hope!

I've had two out, Not that bad, You can feel them tugging and feel a little discomfort but a lot better than having earache for two weeks like I did before I had the first one out...!!!.
#22
I have never had my wisdom teeth pulled as im a bit young for them, i have had both my fang teeth taking out (baby ones) the chains attached to the big teeth and i have to say i was knocked out for it and i struggles to eat anything solid for a few days as my gums keep bleeding.

I had to have part of my jaw bone chipped away so they could get the tooth out. Luckily I was under general anaesthetic at the time so knew nothing about it!!

I had never had any dental work until i was 28 and then needed 2 wisdom teeth taken out and the injections hurt more then anything else (which was not that bad). he injected each one 3 times around the gum of the tooth and then scopped it out. There was no pain. I had a fag right after and that was fine to the worst bit was having a snickers and then 2 days later finding a peanut in the whole, and i brush twice a day and never felt it.

Dont worry about it, It will be fine and should only take 5 mins. Hope it goes well for you :)
#26
Thanks for all your suppost guys, will try to remember and update you on how it's going, for the moment I'm lathering bonjela on the thing! Watch out for bonjelas profits gong throught the roof this month!
#27
I had a compacted one a few years ago, like a couple of others I had to have the gum cut and the dentist and nurse were yanking at it whilst almost sat on my chest.

Muchas fun.

Not.

hurt like a B.
#28
I had 2 of mine removed for the same reason, and like you was dreading it. Tbh it really wasn't as bad as a thought, sore for a few days afterwards and a bit difficult to eat. Good luck :)
#29
be prepared for some scary amount of noise (the creeking and groaning as the dentist loosened me tooth scred the bejesus out of me) at the end though was just a *yamk* and out it came :)
[helper]#30
I had one out and it popped out without any problems - depends on the roots....
#31
So how did the tooth extraction go?
#32
I had 2 taken out at the Dentist years ago, no problem at all, the pain is afterwards but not during. Better than having to go to the Hospital in my opinion.
